Oh how I am starting to really HATE the concept of 3-D..
3-D in the world of Horror isn’t a new concept, but it once upon a time ran it’s course because outside the theater it kinda sucked. I’m sure while it’s never been outright said, this is why Friday The 13th Part 3 which came out back in 1982 in 3-D wasn’t actually released to the home audience in 3-D until recently when the 3-D craze got started again.
But in a world where everything is a remake or a reboot, someone got the idea to bring back the whole 3-D concept from the dead, all the while forgetting that there was a reason 3-D died once before..because outside a giant theater with tons of people, it kinda sucks.
So lets see what have we got to look forward to now with this whole 3-D thing..We got the ball rolling with My Bloody Valentine 3-D, we got The Final Destination that was in 3-D, and we got these babies to look forward to next..Halloween 3-D, Friday The 13th part 2 in 3-D, Piranha 3-D, The Eye 3-D, PuppetMaster 3-D, The Gate 3-D, Swamp Thing 3-D, and the news just broke that Twisted Pictures who is the company behind SAW have got their hands on the rights to Texas Chainsaw Massacre so not only will that be in 3-D soon but a new SAW movie will be 3-D as well..*pew!*
It’s not enough they just make and remake movies in 3-D now but word on the street that are even taking old movies and using technology to now turn old movies that were not made or meant to be 3-D into 3-D movies with George Romero’s classics Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead being re-released soon IN 3-D…Trendy much?
Now it hasn’t been said (yet) but I assume if all goes well with the re-make of A Nightmare on Elm Street that we can expect the sequel to that to be in 3-D as well.
Now I get just as sick of remakes and reboots as the next guy, simple because I like a little originality however that being said, I’d much rather have a remake to a movie (especially one that’s countless sequels have took it way off track and ran a franchise into the ground) than a buss load of 3-D films that will all be looked back at, and laughed at once this recent 3-D trend runs it’s course..and it will run out of steam soon..just like it did in the 80′s.
What’s that they say about those who don’t learn from history?
