Remembering Halloween (The Holiday, not the movie)

If you are a Horror fan, no matter if you grew up in the 80′s, 90′s, or are doing all your growing up now, you’ll remember this little gem we got pictured here. Now join me as I recall some other cool stuff I recall from Halloween as I was growing up..

While I’m sure my Grandparents who raised me had me dressed up as a small child for Halloween..as such things as Tigger, my own memories of the Holiday come from around 1989 when I was just a small kid, back when Halloween still had that “spooky” feel..back before the real world hits you and most the magic is lost..

Now before the big night of trick or treating one thing had to be done! We HAD to go to McDonalds and get a Happy Meal because every Happy Meal came in one of these cool Halloween Pails that every kid just HAD to have..

Now as time would go on these pails would become more and more wimp like, hell as a matter fact I think the pumpkin one I had actually had a much scarier face on it than the one listed above but I guess that’s neither here nor there…

Once we had the pails, we dressed up in our costums, my cousin as a Viking with a long red beard, and I as a WEREWOLF! AAAAaaaaaaaOOOOOO! mother fu..well you get it. Keep in mind these were the cheap paper thin masks with hair glued to them so we looked horrible. I’ll dig out the pictures and post them but I’ll spare myself the pain of seeing how goofy we looked, but we did have a ball and that’s what was important.

We drove all around town that night with my Uncle (his Dad) driving us all the while wearing a very hardcore Devil mask, one of those full head latex ones that were and still are awesome…Which probably wasn’t very safe but at the time it was awesome.

That one seems to stand out to me for whatever reason but as the years went by I bet I was a Vampire at least 4 times. I was a Zombie once (and if could go back I’d have been one much more than just once). And I spent many a Halloween running around in old cloths and sporting that cheap glow in the dark Jason mask you see pictured at the top of this entry.

Also back in the day I was a bit of a sports card collector, and I still am. I was pretty tight with the man who ran the local market. If I had 50 to 75 cents I’d go there every morning before school and buy a pack of Topps baseball cards, because well, that was all the man ever had. None the less for Halloween in 1994 Coca-Cola would put a “Monsters of the Gridiron” card in every 12 pack, so after he’d stock the cooler he’d always give me the cards.

After seeing this little beauty here I guess you can see why I remember those so well. Sadly I no longer have these, which is a shame cause I had the whole set.

So as more years went by the “Spooky” feeling went away and gave way to the thrill of rolling my friend’s houses and Halloween parties and so and so forth with the last costume I ever actually paid money for being a full body Ghostface from Scream one that I got in ’03 that bleeds when you pump the plastic heart it has attached to it.

Ah..the glory days lol

None the less, I hope all of you have a great Halloween this year. And remember..don’t bit into any apples without having them checked first.
