Zombies invade Harrisburg, horrified residents smile, take pictures

Seemingly out of nowhere an army of flesh-eating zombies materialized on City Island Saturday afternoon, organized into a lumbering mob and invaded Harrisburg.

While their objectives were unknown as they walked over the Walnut Street Bridge toward City Hall, horrified residents looked on with smiles on their faces as the mob staggered past, several quickly fumbling for their cameras and urging their young small children pose for pictures with the blood soaked mass.

Many of undead were quoted as saying “Urrrrgh, brains” as they approached innocent civilians enjoying a day at Riverfront Park with their families.

Just kidding, it wasn’t an army of skull suckers, just about 250 people participating in the first Harrisburg Zombie Walk.

“Everybody, please refrain from wreaking havoc and destruction and let’s have some fun,” Justin Kovaleski, 24, of Harrisburg said, one of the organizers of the event.

As zombie costumes go, many in the crowd were dead on. The cast included, nurses, soldiers, lawyers, brides and even a new mom who carried her baby on her back.

Devon Ozehowski, 24 of Harrisburg, who arrived in a white blood soaked leisure suit, said the event sounded like fun from the moment he heard about it.

“What’s more fun than zombie movies,” he said. “I’m a huge fan, it looks like a lot of people are.”

His brother, Tyler Ozehowski, 14, credits his brother for his love of zombie.

“Books, movies, anything zombie,” he said. “It’s all good fun.”

Their friend, Jerry Manganello, 24 of Harrisburg, said there was one draw back to the event.

“I’ve seen movies where the zombies run,” he said. “Where is it written they walk slowly?”

After the multitude of zombies left the island, they walked down Front Street toward the Capitol where they blended in. (Insert your favorite joke here about how their quest for brains went.)

When the walk was over the zombies returned to City Island and drove home in their cars.

Well..I’m sure this was fun, but I’d bet some people who are living in fear of such things now days as H1N1 found themselves having to change their underroos..You know there’s an idea, H1N1 leading to a Zombie outbreak. I bet that movie is being written as we speak..or maybe already in production.
