Today friends is a very important day! You see on this very day all of 70 years ago a man by the name of George A. Romero was born! A man that is very important to this genre we all love so much that we both read and write about it.
Let’s state the obvious while we are at it, Zombies DON’T Run was indeed named after George’s philosophy over the types of films he made famous. Sure, Romero might not have made the very first Zombie movie ever made but he for darn sure made it famous!
While everyone knows George for his Zombie films, all starting with a nice little film called Night of the Living Dead in 1968 perhaps the Zombie film he’ll always be most known for his that film’s sequel Dawn of the Dead, which is true 10 out of 10 film if there ever was one.
George would make his mark with directing movies about the living dead, as he’s already made five Zombie films with a sixth on the way in very short time. Romero also did other notable things in the world of horror as well. He also directed such gems as Creep Show, The Crazies, and while it isn’t horror he also has There’s Always Vanilla under his belt to.
When George wasn’t writing AND directing he was also just writing having penned the scripts to such films as Creep Show 2 and Tales from the Darkside: The Movie. It’s also worthy of bringing up his small acting roles in such movies as The Silence of the Lambs.
I’m sure I speak for everyone in the horror world when I say HAPPY BIRTHDAY George! May you sir have many, many, MANY, more!
