Locally Made Movie Hits The Prime Time..and BOMBS?

McMinnville Tennessee might not ring a bell to any of you fine folks (Well it does if you remember Pamela Rogers and that whole mess) but for me McMinnville aka Warren County is the very place that I was born, the very place half my family still lives including my parents, the place I still live next to, and above all else the place I usually get my stacks of DVD’s from due it having a Hastings. It’s a small town and nothing major ever happens there, hell they don’t even get local concerts or special sporting events anymore due to lack of ticket sales…

So needless to say the little town got a little bit excited when in 2007 Louis Mandylor announced he would be producing and staring in a film to be filmed in that little town titled, Tenebrous. Locally everyone go giddy, people I knew stood in crowds of people just to be extras, and on a good note, the economy was raised up a pretty penny from it.

So fast forward a few years to 2010 and the movie, now known as The Cursed was finally set to be seen..on the Syfy channel on February 6th! *insert wammy sounds here*

I’ll be honest folks I had forgot all about this movie cause I just assumed it would suck anyway, but on my very birthday (on the 7th) my dear Father called me to wish me a happy b-day and ask if I had watched this movie. He’s very much aware of this little site I run here and he was hoping to get my opinion on it as he himself hadn’t watched it but had heard people talking..and the talking wasn’t good.

“They tell me it made us look all like a bunch of hicks!” was what my Dad said as I apparently was the only person around here who ever assumed this would be just what happened with the film. Still shocked I got off the phone with my Dad and I did what I should have done before, I looked at the local newspaper two days late and lo and behold there it was on the front page, “Ready for prime time: Locally filmed movie gets it’s long-awaited debut”..Damn it! I had missed it!

As I read the article I realize a few things, one being I’ll get my chance to see it since according to the paper Syfy has signed on to show the film a total of 35 times, as of me writing this it’s been shown once that I know of. Also apparently the DVD is still six month away, oh and from the way the writer of the paper still seems happy apparently nobody on the staff is aware that just about every steaming pile of crap filmed today ends up on the Syfy channel.

Sure enough a quick trip to the IMDB boards for The Cursed will show you topics with titles such as “Bad, bad, bad” as people who have watched this movie seem to all agree it sucks. “Bad for even Syfy” is just some of the things being said, so not only does this movie make everyone from the town I was born look like a bunch of dumb hicks, apparently it also sucks.

Now you may look at the 5.2 rating out of a grand total of 39 votes and think perhaps it isn’t so bad but trust me when I say this, people from that town have been and will continue to jack up the votes just in order to save some face and gain hope of still drawing attention to the damn place. Which according one again to the paper it’s already lined up to be the filming location of Into the Darkness, another film from the same guys who made this…Look for it on the Syfy channel in about eight years.

Still, I will hold my personal judgment on this movie until after *I* myself have seen it, but from the word my Dad has passed on to me I don’t hold up much hope..

So I suppose, stay tuned?
