The Prologue
My Bloody Valentine 3D if my memory serves me well enough is THE movie I recall kicking off the 3D craze we have going today that’s about to head on into over-drive. On top of that it was also a remake as it blended two current trends in movie making into one film. It did rely a lot on the 3D concept to pull in a crowd but it would have been OK in my book without it.

See folks, I was pleasantly surprised when I got around to watching My Bloody Valentine 3D. It wasn’t the suck fest I had been warned ahead of time that it was at all, sure it’s not for everyone, but it gets a bad rap for no real reason to me. While I’m sure it won’t be a very popular thing to say to the masses, I feel this movie actually tops the original from 1981.

The Movie
In the mining town of Harmony, there was an accident Harry Warden was hurt, woke up from a coma pissed off and he kills a GIANT amount of people. Ten years go by and now the survivors are once again caught up in the middle of a lot of killing but is it Harry who everyone thought was dead, or someone else??…Oh it’s got a lot of finger pointing! How 90′s and exciting huh?

Truth is the film isn’t half bad. I like the fact that it adds a ton of new things to the old story all the while keeping some very cool stuff from the original. Pretty much every cool looking scene from the original is done here and it blends in very very well.

The acting here is OK as well, as the two main lead pretty boys we got here, Kerr Smith as Axel and Jensen Ackles as Tom may have that soap opera like looks that Hollywood loves to cast these days but they are fair actors in their own right. We also get the great Tom Atkins in a role as a police officer, sadly he doesn’t get to say “Thrill me!” a single time in it..But perhaps that’s asking too much? Jaime King never did a lot for me but I can deal with her, she plays the final girl role just as good if not better than the usual type we get for it.

The gore is here by the tons but sadly it’s mostly CGI which I hate, however when watched in the 3D format it isn’t as annoying as when you watch it without the 3D. So in this very rare case the CGI is forgivable IF you are watching it in 3D, without and you’ll be taking a giant dumb on the kills here I’m sure. Which for the record, some of the kills are very cool even if the majority are borrowed from other movies. Some may blast the over-use of the axe but these are probably the same folks that are upset Leatherface doesn’t use his Chainsaw enough! So stop contradicting yourselves!

While it can be watched as a very fun slasher the twist ending is a bit of an awkward finish, if you’ve seen the first you know one is coming and this one handles it different, but maybe just in that too perfect of a fit format I’ve talked about before. You know where everything falls into place a little too good?

The movie won’t be winning any awards for anything but when watched as just a modern day mindless slasher you can find yourself shockingly having a good time..Even if it does run a little long.

The Conclusion
Well folks I don’t hate it, and some may hate me for it but to each their own. What the original did wrong this one does better, but then again it’s vice versa in a way. But a great slasher flick none the less

And I say this as a man who really gets annoyed with 3D.
