Seeing as I’m a long time wrestling fan on top of being a horror fan I’m always looking for ways to merge to two together from time to time, as you seen with my post on the ECW Zombie!!
But today I just want to talk about something that was way more horrific at times than the makers of the event ever intended, World Championship Wrestling’s Halloween Havoc!
Halloween Havoc was an annual professional wrestling pay-per-view from 1989 through 2000, after WCW was sold to the WWE. Vince McMahon (chairmen of WWE) who now owns the rights to the name as with all WCW names has yet to use it.
But Halloween Havoc was invented in 1989 to play off the spooky Halloween vibe and to make the pay-per-view unique. The Main Event of the first show had none other than “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair team up with Sting to take on the crazy Terry Funk and The Great Muta (and scary gimmick in it’s own right) inside THE THUNDERDOME CAGE!!!..Which looked a lot like The Hell In A Cell WWE has today only the top of this cage was electrified!!
Halloween Havoc 1990 saw Sting defend the NWA World Title against another scary man Sid Vicious! A match kinda infamous for the ending which saw a fake Sting (Barry Windham) run in to screw with the finish. The night also had an appearance by the creep BLACK SCORPION!!!..But most folks want to forget he was ever around.
The moment however that I feel really takes the cage with WCW and the Halloween Havoc concept was in 1991 when Sting, El Gigante, and The Steiner Brothers took on Abdullah the Butcher, The Diamond Studd, Cactus Jack and Big Van Vader in a Chamber of Horrors match!! A match known for having an ELECTRIC CHAIR in the middle of it and it all ended after Jack accidentally pulled the switch while Abdullah was in the electric chair..Ooops!
As I got older I realized just how badly ran most things including Halloween Havoc were really ran in WCW but when I was a kid I LOVED this stuff. Below is just a few highlights from WCW’s Halloween themed event!
