Misconceptions In The World Of Horror Blogging

Horror blogging can be a very entertaining thing. Some of the most creative people in the world are horror bloggers, and while it’s always fun to read and see just what will pop up in the community next one can often see a few common beliefs in the world of horror blogging that just aren’t as true as some would have you to believe…

Here are just a few.

Bruce Campbell is the greatest actor who has ever lived!
Um..no? I’ll admit Bruce Campbell is without question the glue that holds all three films in The Evil Dead series together and he is highly entertaining in Bubba Ho-tep, but outside the over the top stuff Bruce somewhat falls flat with me. A straight laced Bruce is a boring Bruce and unless he’s is being over the top I think the limits to one Bruce Campbell really shows.

Women are overlooked in the online horror community.
Where have you people been? Women, more or less, run the online horror community these days. Sure a woman doesn’t run Bloody Disgusting or Dread Central but women bloggers seem to outnumber the men at the top of the blogging community. They may officially only get one month of celebration a year in the online world of horror but I think it’s safe to say the Horror Blogosphere (Copyright B-sol) is currently living in the DAYS of the Woman. Also, if you take a look at The Scare-ening one could assume women have taken over the Podcast portion of the community as well…What’s next, the world?

Adam Green is the best director in the world!
I spoke about this in a recent Horrorphilia Podcast and I’ll do a little more here. Is Adam Green a good director? Sure, but he isn’t the second coming of Jesus that just happens to have a love of horror and camera in hand. Hatchet wasn’t bad but Hatchet wasn’t the greatest horror movie to come along in years either. It’s clear Green loves horror and God bless the man for it, he lets that show in his work. But Adam Green wouldn’t crack my top 10 if I was to list my personal favorite horror directors. He may be a great guy, he may share the same love for horror as many of us horror bloggers, but don’t go putting the man on a pedastool just because he may seem to be your pal either. Good director? You bet! Best? HAHAHAHA..no.

Horror bloggers feuding =’s hits!
Any of you folks ever heard the old saying, “Robbing Peter to pay Paul”? That’s what you are ultimately doing when you pick to dive head over heels into a beef with someone else who is a horror blogger. Sure, at the start you may be able to spark a few people’s interest and people may come to check it out but we have seen example after example of how this stuff can hurt a blogger if it keeps up. People, believe it or not, read a horror blog for HORROR. They may even decide to stick around to read none-horror stuff if it’s interesting or entertaining, but they will NOT keep returning to read you rip into someone over and over..it just doesn’t work.

What a blogger says should be taken as gospel.
If blogger A who is a well established blogger says a movie sucks and blogger B who is new and not as well known says it’s awesome, which blogger is correct? The correct answer to that would be BOTH! Some people seem to forget that all this stuff we write is just opinions. Some will hold more credit in the minds of some but you shouldn’t write off someone just because they don’t agree with you or your favorite blogger. Honestly, listen to both sides, watch it yourself, and then form your own opinion. People see stuff different, people have different taste, and if we are to be comepletly honest here, some bloggers only give good reviews because they don’t want to piss off whoever sent them the movie. This is even more reason why everyone should form their own opinions and not just go with whatever so and so says because they are who they are. After all at the end of the day even my picks here for horror misconceptions are just my opinion.
