Welcome to the newest feature here on the site! So what is Face Off? Simple, two bloggers/writers are given a series of statements in regards to the horror world and they reply with either “True” if they agree or “False” if they don’t. They then go into detail as to why they feel the way they do about it. We’ll see just who stands where on many issues of today.
And who do we have today??
Pax Romano – The writer for the blog Billy Loves Stu! Pax is among the most well respected bloggers out there.
Bryan Schuessler – From Shuizmz to having a #Bonerjam, Bryan is probably one of the coolest people you could know in the world of horror.
Neve Campbell will die in Scream 4 and probably won’t make it past the opening credits.
Pax – FALSE: I think that the character of Sydney will only be peripherally used in the new Scream film, like maybe she’ll show up in the last reel and help the newest “final girl” out of a jam.
Bryan – TRUE: I think that she will be in the film for nostalgia sake, but a younger and much hotter up and coming actress will take over the reigns as the heroine in the film. I think Campbell has had her time as the “scream queen” for the series and it’s time for someone else to take over.
With more than half the year already gone, the horror side of the movie industry has been lacking and disappointing.
Pax – TRUE: But I think that horror is not the only genre that has suffered. Main stream movies in general are pretty crappy these days. You really have to seek out a good film anymore – horror or otherwise.
Bryan – TRUE: There have been some films that were very good, but overall, it has been a disappointing year. There really have just been an abundance of remakes and lackluster sequels. I really am waiting for the SAW franchise to kick the bucket and hope quite a few other films end their reign at the box office.
George A Romero needs to stop making Zombie movies.
Pax – FALSE: Romero is a visionary and that’s lost on today’s crowd. They want blood, explosions and loud music to buttress up their horror films. Uncle George asks you to watch, and savor his films. Survival of the Dead, was, in my humble opinion, a terrific, multi-layered vision of America today. I think that over time, folks are going to realize what a brilliant movie it actually was. That said, I’d love for him to step outside of his comfort zone – BUT I think the only way the guy can get financing is to feature the walking dead in his films.
Bryan – TRUE: After having seen Survival of the Dead, I really wish he would just hang his hat up. I really have not enjoyed a film directed by Romero since Day of the Dead. That and Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead were the epic zombie films that defined the genre and everything made after has just been average all the way down to a pile of stinking crap (Survival of the Dead).
Adam Green (Director of Hatchet among other things) is over-rated.
Pax – FALSE: I think he’s done some decent stuff as a director as well as a producer (Grace, for instance). Give him time.
Bryan – TRUE: I enjoyed Hatchet, but I did not love it. I felt their was more hype over that film then there should have been. I have not seen any other films of his, but thought the trailer for Frozen looked really good.I did get a big kick out of that gory commercial he did spoofing the Slap Chop calling his invention the Jack Chop.
You are looking forward to the reboot of Predators
Pax – FALSE: Never liked the original, could care less about the remake.
Bryan – TRUE: I have always loved the Predator flicks, even though the sequels were kinda campy and cheesy. I just think the concept of Predator is so cool. I have high hopes for most any film Adrian Brody is in. I think he is a brilliant actor and he can pull off playing the character Dutch, as Arnold did in the original film.
