For a movie titled Skull Heads they seem to be kinda lacking..
Skull Heads (2009)
Directed By: Charles Band (Puppet Master)
The Prologue
If you look at the history of Full Moon you’ll notice they’ve been pretty successful with movies that deal with small people and creatures. Puppet Master to Demonic Toys to Dollman, all have been hits for Full Moon. So why not introduce a new one to the mix with Skull Heads? Three little..um..skull creatures! Can they add another small franchise into the mix??
The Movie
Naomi’s parents are really weird, wealthy, and strict. They live in a castle with her grandfather and uncle and they hardly leave it. To make matters worse, Naomi’s Dad doesn’t even allow her to have modern things like ipods and cell phones and if he catches her with those things it’s do the dungeon with her for some old school torture! But you see, Naomi is of legal age now and she wants to leave the castle! She sees her chance when a group of odd people show up wanting to make a “movie” at the castle. Oh, and there’s these little skull things here to..to spite the movie being named after them they have little to do with the plot.
Skull heads is what you’ve come to expect from Full Moon, meaning some people may like it and some people might hate it. One thing it does have going for it is Robin Sydney (who’s been in a few Full Moon movies) playing the role of Naomi. She had a role in Killer Bong 1 & 2 but she gets the lead here. And for what it’s worth she does a very good job playing the fully grown, yet child-like Naomi.
The film packs some funny moments that may or may not actually be funny depending on your sense of humor. The whole family in this thing comes off as an off-beat bunch. To match Naomi’s immature ways, we have a man-child in her half uncle. Who also humps the cooks there by the way. Her father is way way over protective and her Mom isn’t too far behind him on that. There’s also something else with her parents and grandfather but I won’t spoil that one for you.
The trouble with Skull Heads it the plot is just soo cookie cutter and done before. You can probably predict how things will wrap before the movie ends because it’s nothing we haven’t seen in movies or Full Moon movies before. I also can’t complain enough about the lack of the Skull Heads. They only really do anything near the end and are rather pointless then. It makes me wonder why that is. The movie is named after them, shouldn’t it be actually about them?
So when all is said and done Full Head has a few laughs, a good actress, and not much else. It falls in the class of average to below average and won’t be liked by a whole lot of folks. Still it MAY be worth a rent if you’re into Full Moon however if you are I think I’d suggest you pick up other Full Moon films like Subspecies or Puppet Master and skip this.
The Conclusion
Not really as good as it could have been due to the lack of actual Skull Heads but if you’d like the chance to see Robin Sydney naked you can get this film over at Full Moon! You’d be shocked how many sales a movie can get on that fact alone.
