One of the more creative Zombie movies I’ve ever seen.

Hell Is Full (2010)
Directed By: Steve Hudgins (Goatsucker)

The Prologue
For awhile now, when it comes to zombies movies, you could say “if you’ve seen one you’ve seen them all”. But I am happy to report that in the case of Steve Hudgins’ film Hell Is Full, that is simply not the case. In this new zombie film the format is finally broken and what we get here is a bit of a breath of fresh air in a lot of ways. But that’s expected when dealing with a film by Big Biting Pig and Steve Hudgins, I haven’t seen a bad film by these guys yet.

The Movie
When an odd event happens in a small town of Kentucky it sets forth a zombie outbreak that quickly starts to spread. However in this film it isn’t just about the zombie outbreak it’s self. We are reminded that each zombie has a story of it’s own and this film takes the unique path of showing us a glimpse of these people’s lives while this terrible event occurs.

What I really liked about this film was how it’s presented to us. I’ve always been a fan of the Tarantino-like time jumping, but this one takes more of a page out of Momento. A style that as far as I know was unheard of for a zombie movies. Steve Hudgins took a chance here with his film by using this style and it works..it really really works. You really get a chance to take a quick look at a lot of people before the worst happens and it makes you actually care. Something that doesn’t happen in a lot of horror films in general.

One other key thing to this movie is while it’s a horror film and a zombie film at that, the people have some very real problems of their own that are in some cases bad enough without a zombie being tossed in. There are very real problems for the folks of this town and now it just so happens there’s a zombie outbreak happening around them as well. I guess you could say it’s really realistic in a lot of ways. Sure the film might lack a clear lead given it’s style, and maybe there’s not one paint by numbers plot from start to finish, but you got to think, if this really happened it wouldn’t be like those other movies, it would be just like this.

Now one other thing that sets a Steve Hudgins’ film apart from a lot of other indie film makers is the writing. This movie, like his other movies, comes packed in plenty of clever twists and turns that I can’t go into detail about here. It’s a great writing style that works to fill in any dead spots and keep you on your toes. It keeps you shocked and guessing throughout the film and you never really have a dull moment.

Also while this film isn’t a gore filled film, it does pack a few gory moments that at times can kinda play on you folks who have a weak stomach. So that’s good enough for me. I guess to sum it up I could just say this film isn’t an action packed affair but it’s a movie that will keep you interested from start to finish. It’s a different kind of zombie movie, but it’s a kind we really need more of. If you’ve never seen a film by Big Biting Pig Productions I think Hell Is Full would be a good place to start.

The Conclusion

Another solid film from the fine folks over at Big Biting Pig Productions! I highly suggest you guys take a chance and check these guys out. They may be really indie but they are also really good. Hell Is Full is a good change of pace from what you see in zombie films and I believe a lot of you guys will appreciate it.
