The Prologue
I am by no means what you’d call a “normal” guy. Hell, I’m probably a little crazy and I am very weird. I don’t know why, but I looove seeing disturbing movies. The more disturbing the better right? That’s what I always thought. Then I saw this thing called Subconscious Cruelty..a film that is beyond outrageous. And be it a sign of maturity or common sense, I didn’t enjoy this movie at all. As a matter of fact it made me feel sick for even having watched it and not because it was “soo wrong”, because it was just sick. It’s in poor taste, and it shouldn’t have ever seen the light of day in MY humble opinion.
The Movie
Oh, this is where I go into plot details about a movie right? Well this pile of shit doesn’t really have a plot. Or at least it lacks one that makes and any sense or has any form of decency to it. But none the less, it’s a movie that has several different parts to it that when they come together form the overall film. We start off with a very weird man who is very obsessed with his very own sister. We then go into a weird portion of the film that has people getting all sexual with the ground they are rolling on, and then we finish the film off with a scene that gets all weird with masturbation and then goes into Jesus getting torn apart and pissed on. I don’t care if that spoils it, you shouldn’t want to watch it anyway.
I’ll be 100% honest with you, this film makes no sense what so ever. And not in the cool 2001 A Space Odyssey manner, where things are weird and still effective and worth seeing, but in the way that it’s shock for the sake of shock and down right disgusting. I’m sure if you asked the director he’d give you some “smart” reply as to why things happen they way they do in this thing, but I don’t care. The way I see it, a man rubbing one out, then playing with the semen on his hand after (and apparently it’s real semen) doesn’t make any clever point. It’s nasty, it’s sick, and it’s not worth wasting 2 cents on to see.
And that’s just the first part of this “film”. When it ended I was just disgusted, but by the time the movie ended I was down right offended. I mean we can skip past the hippies having sex with the ground, it’s just dumb. Not too shocking or offensive, just weird and really dumb. It’s get a little sicker once we see the weird masturbation scene (yeah another) but it’s just really really weird. But it doesn’t stop there, the director then decides to bring Jesus into this p.o.s. and that’s where I was forced to draw a line as a viewer. I’m not a Jesus freak, you all know that. I have my beliefs and I keep them to myself and I respect that not all folks believe what I do. But what point does a movie make to have Jesus hunted down, start to be torn apart and bitten, and then finally pissed on?? That doesn’t as much shock me as it just pisses me off. There’s no point to it, other than get a reaction and if that was the goal then good job, buddy, it worked..Your movie still sucks however.
I like to go into more detail than this with reviews, but I really don’t have a lot to say about this one because there isn’t a lot to say about it, hell, it doesn’t really have a real plot. It’s pretty much what I already summed up for you. There’s a handful of vignettes that come together that make this up. They all have shocking to offensive things in them, and they don’t make one bit of sense. If this movie sounds like something you want to see, then be my guest. However, if I was a betting man I’d be willing to bet that 99.9% of you, even if you’re not offended by the Jesus stuff, won’t have one bit of use for this thing they want to pass off as a movie.
The Conclusion
What I said on the Horrorphillia podcast best sums up what I feel about this movie. This isn’t a word for word reenactment but let me put it like this, I think every copy of this movie, the director, the actors in this thing, and anyone who can honestly say they liked it, need to be tossed together and put in a giant capsule and dropped into the bottom of some ocean. Oh, and nice gore effects, asshole, you get a 1.
