Top 10 Horror Movies Of 2010

Rating: 0.0/10 (0 votes cast)

I think it’s an unwritten rule that everyone does a Top 10 for the year right? Well if you’d like to actually hear me talk about my Top 10 and go as far as to name a Top 20 then click on over to the Horrorphilia Podcast and give the show a listen, but for those too lazy, here’s the list here..

Now before I get started I want to state that I tried to keep this list strictly horror, thus leaving off some sure fire Top 10 worthy movies that only walked the line of horror. As a result, sadly you won’t see Heartless, Dead Hooker In a Trunk, or Youth In Revolt. All of which films I’d have had for sure had this been a general Top 10.

And YES I know some of these came out last yer in the UK. I however did qualify movies that didn’t get released in the USA until this year. Also in a few rare cases you will see a film that was released overseas somewhere this year that has yet to be seen here, if I was lucky enough to have seen it and liked it, it’s here.

Plus it’s my list with my opinion..so give me a break OK?? :-p

10: Dawning
No, I don’t know what was in those woods, but it was sure creepy as hell. While it’s hard to pull off, sometimes you can have a horror movie that doesn’t need to give you all the answers, and this is one of them. Dawning, while still not yet seen by the masses, joins the company of the original Halloween and Black Christmas in that group of films that leave stuff open and is still enjoyable..Not bad company at all.

09: Long Pigs

Have you ever seen a horror film with a bad guy that is a horrible person but still extremely likable? Well if you’ve seen Long Pigs you sure have. A film that does the fake documentary style film right, and a film that can actually makes you laugh, creep you out, and touch on emotion all within the run-time of the movie. That’s hard to do, but rest a sure this movie does it.

08: The Loved Ones
What we have here is a movie that a lot of you won’t be seeing until next year. A film I look to see on many Top 10′s when 2011 wraps up and people in the states see it. I think it’s safe to say this movie gives us a villain that many folks will talk about for years to come, with a plot that while not 100% unique, combines many parts of different films to form it’s down extremely enjoyable movie.

07: The Human Centipede

Some people hated it, some people loved it. And while I can’t say quality wise it was anything too special, I think the pure sick and unique plot this film brings is well worth praise alone. It’s just soo hard to find new and different in the world of horror this year, but this film gives us that. It’s not for everyone, but what is?

06: She’s Crushed
I’ve taken a lot of heat for praising this film as much as I have, but I still stand by it. While the movie gives us a lot of things we are usually only use to seeing in foreign films, you have to understand people who don’t usually see that sorta thing will be pretty freaked out when they see this. I dare say it’s the most underrated film of the year hands down, and I do wish you would all take a chance on it and see it.

 05: Doghouse
I’m not 100% sure if you’d call the women in this movie zombies or not, but I am 100% sure I loved every minute of it. The movie mixes horror and comedy together brilliantly, and gives us a large cast of characters that we actually like and care about. When someone dies, it bums us out. That’s the type of stuff that gets lost a lot these days in horror.

04: The Crazies
A remake that tops the original?? Well, I dunno for sure but I think it would be safe to say it does. A bit of a surprise to many in 2010, as much of the community assumed this would suck, The Crazies shocked everyone by actually being good! I know I was shocked when I actually liked it. While the ending may not be what everyone wanted, I don’t think it’s enough to bring the film down as a whole.

03: Devil

One of the last films I saw in 2010, and oddly enough one of the ones I enjoyed the most. I don’t care who wrote this, it was pure quality. A story that leave you guessing and packs meaning, a deep meaning. Those types of elements will be enough to turn people away, but there are a lot of folks who can appreciate it. Those who do, like me, will love this.

02: Rec 2
I feel the first Rec was brilliant, and I believe Rec 2 tosses enough new directions and surprises into it to actually top it. The ending came as a giant surprise to me and while who knows if the other sequels will be able to keep the goodness alive, we at least have a 1 and 2 we can hold in very high regard.

01: Babysitter Wanted
While Babysitter Wanted has been in the can for a few years it didn’t get released til this year. What we have is a story with a very likable lead, a very shocking twist, and just a good general story being told as we watch it. While some compare it to The House of the Devil, I feel it’s everything that movie wasn’t, and that’s a good thing to me. While some choose to just overlook this film and then proceed to toss out very lame excuses as to why, I think any horror fan that watches with an open mind can find a very surprisingly good story being told with some nice blood to go along with it.
