Dear Lord in Heaven..I actually liked this.

Stripperland (2011)
Directed By: Sean Skelding (I Am Virgin)

The Prologue
I don’t think it’s an unknown fact that I thought last year’s I Am Virgin was pretty horrible. It was more or less in the style of late night Showtime softcore-porn. So when Sean Skelding’s new film, Stripperland showed up at my door from Cheezy Flicks, I figured it would be more of the same. I am happy to report that I was happily wrong about that assumption. While still using the parody route mixed with half naked women (not all the way naked that much this time), Stripperland succeeds where I Am Virgin failed. It, topped off with some funny cameos, really comes off as a fun B-movie. And I am very shocked about that! You can also pick this up at MVD as well for anyone keeping score.

The Movie

When an unknown virus known as the “Stripper” virus infects virtually every stripper in the world, Strippers come down off their poles to attack and eat people. So basically. they are stripper zombies! We follow things as Frisco and Idaho run into each other and then run into two none-zombie ladies on their way to find peace and civilization away from the stripper madness that has pretty much taken over. And if you couldn’t tell already, YES, it’s a parody of the hit zombie film, Zombieland. But don’t let that throw you off, it’s oddly entertaining.

Lloyd Kaufman, Thom Bray, Daniel Baldwin, Linnea Quigley, and Boyd Banks, all make cameos in this little indie film from Cheezy Flicks and IMD. Moving away from the soft porn of their last film and heading into a much more entertaining direction this time has worked wonders for this film. The movie is actually very funny at random times. Maybe that’s because it’s just soo awkward that you can’t help but laugh, but it gets the job done. Over the years I’ve grown to really hate parody films, but this is one that for once doesn’t cause that many eye-rolls, and is actually good watchable, B-movie material.

While nobody here will be winning any Oscars, I thought the acting wasn’t that bad. Everyone plays their roles about as well as you could hope for in a film of this nature. I also have to give extra kudos to Maren McGuire (playing Virginia) who comes across very well and very likable in this thing. It always helps to have that, as you know if you read my reviews here. And in their own right, Jamison Challeen (Idaho), Ben Sheppard (Frisco), and Ileana Herrin (West) do well also. And if we want to go into details about cameos, Lloyd Kaufman’s is the best in my opinion. maybe cause I’m biased towards Troma. But Boyd Banks, who plays a pimp, is also way better than he had any right to be.

While the film does go a little long for my personal taste, I can also give props to this movie for having pretty good gore. I wish the CGI was turned down a bit, but what can you do there? It’s quicker and thus everyone wants to use it, but more corn syrup splashing all over the place and less CGI splash effects could have helped this one out even more. None the less, if you are looking for something that can be fun and not bother making you have to think at all, then you could probably enjoy this one more than you might think.

The Conclusion
Everything that Sean Skelding did wrong with I Am Virgin, he did right here with, Stripperland. So I give credit to him and everyone behind this film for making it watchable. If you wish to get this one for yourself, then click on over to Cheezy Flicks and give it a goYou can also go and get it at MVD. ALSO you can also get the soundtrack for this movie as well. So if you like any of the music you hear and want to have it to listen to (or strip to) then that might be a good purchase for you as well.
