Good gory fun!

Psycho Holocaust (2009)
Directed By: Krist Rufty (Cutting Room!)

The Prologue
Do you enjoy old school movies? Well, old school but not too old school. If you like films like Texas Chainsaw Massacre or The Last House on the Left, then you should also enjoy Psycho Holocaust, which is a throwback to those times. It pays tribute to films of the past and at the same time does enough to make it’s own name for it’s self. I think what it has accomplished with this movie is make a movie that will find it’s self a nice little following and spot in the hearts of a lot of horror fans once they’ve seen it. And trust me my friends, it’s well worth checking out.

The Movie
On a scorching summer day 6 friends venture into the mountains for one more vacation before their lives change forever. Unbeknownst to them, their lives would forever be changed anyway. In the shadows awaits a pack of the most evil, the most vile, rejects of humanity that’s addicted to violence and thirsty for blood! This is Psycho Holocaust… Which might I add sure doesn’t look all glossy and shiny like just about every film that comes out these days, BUT it for sure packs a lot of fun and some very strong gore. Stuff like this can be looked over now days, which is a shame.

While watching Psycho Holocaust I noticed a lot of nods to other horror films from the past. Our most gimmicky killer know as “Face”, reminds me a lot of Jason just mixed with some Leatherface. There were scenes that had to be pure tributes to such classics as Last House on the Left. These are things I noticed and things any hardcore horror fan will also pickup on while viewing. But on top of that, I also noticed a lot of heart in this movie. Even if some actors come across a little weaker than others in their performance, you can tell everyone put their all into this movie and it works wonders on the overall presentation. A presentation that is nothing short of a throwback to old school horror and grinddhouse films.

While there’s a few performances in this film you could pinpoint out for conversation. I think, Trent Haaga, who has been in such gems as Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV (And other Troma films), stands out above the rest. The man is a very good character actor and it shows here in spades. The film is made in a way to look as if it came from the early 80′s or 70′s. And the actors would fit right in their roles in that time frame perfectly according to how this one comes across. But still, on top of everything you just can’t help but notice Trent Haaga, he just does that good of a job and I think everyone who sees this will enjoy his acting ability.

And of course you can’t talk about this movie without talking about the gore. Which is very old school but very VERY good. At times the gore and the graphic nature of it hits such a level you’d think you were watching a Troma movie or perhaps even a Toe Tag film. There are moments where things get took to another level and while it’s good fun for people like me, I can see where some folks might get a little freaked out or perhaps even a little sick while seeing some of what takes place. But then again, isn’t something like that just helping this movie reach the goal it was shooting for with the overall vibe of the film? If you like a good throwback with a ton of violence then you should for sure check out Psycho Holocaust.

The Conclusion
I would strongly suggest anyone who is a fan of any of the classics at least check this movie out. It’s got some stuff in it a few of you might hate, but it also has some stuff in it a lot of you might love. I loved a lot about this film and I strongly appreciated what they were doing.
