Ice: The Movie (2007)

The year is 2012. Due to an environmental contaminant, the human population has been decimated, including all males, leaving only women behind. Facing extinction, some have decided to accept their doom and live to seek pleasure; others are still trying to use science to fight off that fate. In central Tokyo, one of the last inhabited areas in the world, these two groups face off in a struggle over a hidden sample of “ICE,” a substance that could save humanity.

Ice was originally an anime that had three episodes. So, what we have here is all three of those episodes together in movie form, which is a better way of seeing it in my humble opinion. If you are like me, then you hate having to wait week after week to see a series. As a result I’d end up buying the box set of the season, but since there was only three episodes of Ice, might as well toss it together anyway, right? And from typical Anime standards the show does live up to the majority of the rest. We have action, violence, and very sexually draw cartoon situations at times, these three things always make up the world of an Anime. Those silly Asians, they seem to know what us Americans always want.

There is real world issues going on inside the this drawn fantasy land, which with it’s 2012 storyline goes along great with the doomsday folks for our coming year. It’s just weird enough to keep things interesting as well. Someone early on is hit by a truck and it takes a bit to learn just what that was about, but when we do it’s somewhat shocking. This is where the more epic portions of the story come into play, so pay attention. If you don’t, you could get lost at times. I don’t think it connects as well on an emotional level as many other Animes, but those are the best ones and they are the best for a reason. Still, if this is your thing it’s a good one to add to the collection. You do get a VERY creative story that is mixed just right with some cartoon blood. Even with as strange and as odd as the story going on is, it still ties together rather nicely at the end to get my approval.
