In a time of wizards and dragons, a mystic quest brings a distant traveler to a place called Earth! It is the dark ages. Knights patrol the countryside, Kings make the rules, and princesses go silently about their royal duties. Princesses, that is, who aren’t Princess Alba (Maria Lamor). When Princess Alba is apparently abducted by a dragon, it’s up to Klever (Harvey Keitel) to save her. What Klever finds, however, is not a dragon at all – but a strange beast-like craft from the stars – a craft with an occupant, a humanoid alien from another planet. Things heat up when, during Princess Alba’s rescue, Klever gets closer to the alien than he ever expected – and learns that Alba isn’t being held against her will after all – she is in love with the strange, futuristic traveler.
The year here was 1985 and you could count on the 80′s doing something as silly as making a mid-evil film with an 80s futuristic twist! It’s also the perfect cheesy movie for a company like Cheezyflicks to have under it’s belt. While it’s not the greatest thing I have ever seen, it at least packs a creative story and also gives us the joy of seeing Harvey Keitel, who I’m use to seeing in roles like Mr.White from Reservoir Dogs, playing the role of a knight. A knight that is using dialogue packed with the mid-evil lingo. So we see this bad ass using such terms as “thou” and “thee” a whole lot. It’s oddly amusing, and helps pull you through some slowed down parts of the film. And there is a little dragging.
But at the heart of things here we do have a love story, a forbidden love story. It’s also packed with some effects and scenes that you won’t find anywhere else besides a movie from the 80s. Still, at the end of the day you have a film that is kinda bad, but kinda bad in a kinda good way. But we do see a flaying goat early on. I think Keitel and this flying goat are plenty enough reason to at least check this wacky movie out. And the cheap asking price of Cheezyflicks does help things out a great deal as well. Just don’t expect anything epically good here. That being said, I’d watch grass grow if it was at least narrated by Harvey Keitel.
