The Prologue
The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence), was one of the more anticipated films of 2011. It had a limited release as well as being on demand and it seemed like most people were split, some hating it while others loved it. I was on the side that loved this film. I didn’t just love it, I said it was THE best horror film of 2011. It’s very rare to have a sequel top the original, but Human Centipede II was a film that in my humble opinion, topped the original in every way. It’s not a film for everyone, maybe it’s not a film for your average movie goer at all, but when you “GET” this film and I get it very well, you will see just how smart it actually is. Finally on February the 14th, you will all get the chance to bring this one home on DVD or Blu-ray.
The Movie
Martin is a mentally disturbed loner who lives with his mother in a bleak housing project. He works the night shift as a security guard in an equally grim and foreboding underground parking complex. To escape his dreary existence, Martin loses himself in the fantasy world of the cult horror film The Human Centipede (First Sequence), fetishizing the meticulous surgical skills of the gifted Dr. Heiter, whose knowledge of the human gastrointestinal system inspires Martin to attempt the unthinkable.
OK, now let’s be 100% upfront and honest about this thing. There is no logic at all. Martin works at his job, he kills/kidnaps a lot of people while on the clock and I’m pretty sure every thing he does there is being taped somewhere. A lot of people are coming up missing, I don’t think he’s even taking the time to try to cover his tracks as far as blood and stuff goes either. So, if this was logical, hed have been busted really quick I think. And that’s not even counting the medical stuff either. I think when he starts cutting around with whatever tools and knifes he had in his house a lot of people would have died before he had time to connect anyone to anyone else, but this is horror we are talking about. When you watch a horror movie, you are already tossing logic out the windows when dealing with monsters and zombies, so let’s not nitpick with the facts here and just go with it.
Which I’m not sure if a lot of people realize this or not, but the fact nothing adds up is kind of the director’s point. People were outraged and up in arms about the first film when the fact is it wasn’t even THAT bad. Sure it was an extremely weird idea, but it was built up way more than it delivered. Still, people tossed a fit. What we have here is a giant f-you from the director to the critics, and I’m very happy to report it raises the bar from the first film to an 11 and gives us exactly what I had expected going into watching the first film. Terrible terrible TERRIBLE things happen on the screen in this film. There is blood and bodily functions flying all over the screen at times and it’s just highly entertaining and hilarious. Having seen it, I THINK I get why it’s black and white. I can’t imagine a colorized version of this thing would have gotten anything less than an X rating on gore and stuff of that nature alone.
I may be in the minority with this opinion, but I LOVED this film. Well, maybe it’s bad to admit to loving a film like this, so perhaps what I really am trying to say is that I “get” it and really appreciate it. There will be a ton of haters for this film. Some people will just dwell on logic and not like it, common fans will be turned away by what takes place on screen and want nothing more to do with it. I can’t find much of anything personally I didn’t like about it outside of the small fact that I kinda liked our crazy doctor from the first film a little more than I did Martin this time around, but he’s just soo damn weird it’s OK. This film has “cult hit” written all over it. It will be panned, it will be looked over and cursed, but it will be truly enjoyed by a lot of people who like sick stuff and by people like me that see what is really going on. The endings a little abrupt and the plot holes are at times massively blatant, but this may be the most fun I’ve had watching a horror movie all year. So it gets my approval.
The Conclusion
The Human Centipede II, is a very dark film. It’s gory, it’s outrageous, and it’s by far the most fun film to come out in the entire year of 2011. You have a director here that knew people were going to complain no matter what, so he just went all out and gave us this modern classic. If you’ve heard people being negative about this film, don’t believe it. At least not until you’ve seen it for yourself. And here you can see it crisp HD and really get a nice look at the graphic and outlandish stuff that goes down in this film.
