Resurrection County (2008)
Director: Matt Zettell

When traveling through Resurrection County, mind the signs, one false move out there could be your last. When four suburbanite campers roll into the remote town of Enoch, they find that southern hospitality still exists. But things are not what they appear to be, as a weekend camping trip turns deadly, and the locals are all too happy to serve up their own brand of an eye for an eye justice. The laws that you so willingly follow are not always right.

When you review as many movies and get as many screeners as I do, you at times see a lot of sub-par films. But every once in a while you come across one that shocks you by how good it turns out to be. A film you don’t expect much from exceeds all your expectations and becomes a pure joy to watch. For me, Resurrection County was THAT film. The concept of people being stuck in the woods or in a small town area with a lot of unfriendly backwoods folks have been done before. But it’s hard to find it done well, or especially as well as it is done in this movie. It’s brutal, it’s bloody, and it leaves a lasting impression. It also manages to exhaust you as you watch, due to the rollercoaster nature it takes your emotions on. When you add all that up, the results are a damn good film.

Our four poor characters that are caught up in this mess are well presented and made to look as if they could be our “final” characters or main leads, which makes it hard to tell who will last the longest. They are also so well done that you actually care about what happens to them. So since this is the case, we find ourselves a little shocked at times when someone is killed. And more times than not, they die in very shocking and gruesome ways. It’s a real horror filled thriller that just pushed things at times, with no comedy in sight. So if you dug stuff like Wolf Creek, I’m sure you’ll dig this one as well. This film may fly under some radars, but if you get the chance to see it, I highly recommend that you give it a chance.
