A Look At He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (The Complete Second Season)
After the first season of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe went 60 plus episodes in 1983 the company behind that decides to give He-man another go and as a result, Season two went down in 1984. He-Man would get another 66 episodes and that was pretty much all they needed. With re-runs the seasons would play and play again until 1985. And thanks to syndication they would go on well after that, even having a spin off in 1985 with She-ra (Prince Adam’s stolen twin sister ya know?)
But as for Season 2, it’s more of the same as season 1. And why should it be anything else? When the format works, you just don’t mess around with it and formula worked well enough to make Mattel a whole lot of money. I mean we ARE talking about the cartoons today in 2012 and rightfully so. But in a nutshell what do we get with Season 2?
Skeletor and his crew are still here. But he’s added in many new villains to help him out along the way, none very much more successful in their evil deeds than the old side-kicks of evil. But they do look cool and they did make very nice action figures!! And if I am too be perfectly honest, I do believe more time and effort went into these stories. They are a bit more compelling than the original season was.
One of the biggest highlights of the set is the introduction of some snake people near the end of it! So we don’t just get more of He-Man and Telelas tension (can’t call it sexual tension because this IS a kids show). We have many new good guys like Fisto, but the baddest like Double Trouble and these snake below like we see below are for sure the best part of it.
Like with the Season 1 set, Season 2 does come with extra goodies for all of us He-Man lovers. Six of the Episodes come with their own commentary tracks. You get 50 character profiles, so you can get down with the history of each one. And of this eight disc set, the eighth disc does come with more documentaries including, The Story of He-Man, The Magic of Filmation, and Animating He-Man. Season 2 is ever bit the nostalgic joy ride the first set was. And if you want to talk quality, I believe the stories are better.
