Blue Sunshine (1978)
Director: Jeff Lieberman
Where to get it: New Video
At a party, someone goes insane and murders three women. Falsely accused of the brutal killings, Jerry is on the run. More bizarre killings continue with alarming frequency all over town. Trying to clear his name, Jerry discovers the shocking truth…people are losing their hair and turning into violent psychopaths and the connection may be some LSD all the murderers took a decade before.
Acid is apparently a hell of a drug! Or that appears to be the message in this film that makes balding people everywhere feel really self conscious. Blue Sunshine is a very nice dose of the 70s. And it gives you a feel that many similar films of that time also packs. It seems to have more of a suspense than horror vibe to it, but that’s not saying it doesn’t make for a fun watch when you want something a little different to watch. People losing their hair and going all crazy killing people (and animals) is something straight out of a midnight movie. That pretty much sums up what you get with Blue Sunshine.
During the film we follow a character named, Jerry. And this man seems to have the worst luck ever. While trying to get to the bottom of just what is going on, he ends up always at the wrong place at the wrong time. So while he’s trying to make sense of it all, he’s been accused of all the killing that is going on. Killing that consists of scenes that feature two kids getting on some poor woman’s last nerves until she reaches for a knife..I’ll just stop spoiling stuff there. To sum stuff up, it’s a fun movie. It’s a little slow in areas, but it has it’s moments. Like a certain “disco” scene near the end. If you dig this sorta thing, it’s worth watching. But only if you are a fan of the 70s style cinema.
