White Vengeance (2011)
Director: Daniel Lee
Where to get it: Well Go USA
In a time of tyranny and oppression, deception is everywhere. Insurgency swells among the people as two brothers battle for supremacy -and the love of a woman- during the fall of the Qin Dynasty. Liu Bang (Leon Lai, BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS) and Xiang Fu (Feng Shaofeng, XI YOU JI), once united but now locked in combat to rule the insurgent lands in a recreation of history’s famed bloody battle for rule and dominion, known as the Feast at Hong Gate. Witness the beginning of the Red Cliff rebellion with this historic clash, directed by Daniel Lee (3 KINGDOMS, BLACK MASK).
White Vengeance is a film that looks epic in its Blu-ray presentation. And you can tell it’s a film that attempts to be epic overall in its content as well. While I don’t believe the film reaches its goal all together, it does make for a very cool and intense at times film full of a lot of the things we love about Asian cinema. While I’ve always been more of a fan of stuff like Shogun Assassins I still have a great appreciation for the time honored films that deal with rivalry and struggle between siblings over love and power. If you dig that sort of stuff then you’ll greatly enjoy this film.
Filled with cool images and confrontations you’ll not at all be bored or wanting to hit the skip button when you watch, White Vengeance. I also suggest if you do have a Blu-ray player that you grab the Blu instead of the standard DVD for the full effect of the visuals. It’s a near perfect transfer for a film that is carried by its strong acting and cast. I may not be in love with the film, but I did like it a lot. And I am very happy to see Well Go USA releasing cool titles like this one for us to get a good look at.
