Supernatural Activity (2012) (DVD Review)
Director:  Derek Lee Nixon
Where to get it: Well Go USA

In the realms of reality TV, ghost hunting is big business. And the Supernatural Activity team is at the top of their game, debunking myths, ghouls, and spooky places, for freaked-out viewers everywhere. The world’s most beloved illusionist, accompanied by a crack team of paranormal investigators, embark on what might be their most terrifying assignment yet which works out great, since it s the last episode of the season.  Besides, everyone knows there s not really such a thing as ghosts. What could go wrong? Terrorized at every turn, this witch-hunting, ghost-busting, creature-questing supernatural spoof-tacular is the funniest footage ever found!…Notice it is soo funny that even the plot details from the back of the case is funny.

I really wanted to hate this movie. I assumed when it arrived in the mail that it would be some lame Paranormal Activity spoof and I groaned with the enthusiasm of a small child who had to leave the toy he wanted behind at the local Wal-Mart. But when I actually popped this one in the trust player I was somewhat alarmed by the fact that the content was actually funny. I was even more alarmed in the way that a lot of what goes down on screen not only pokes fun and many of the found footage films that have come out as of late, but it did so in a half way clever way. Is it possible we have a spoof that does just the right amount of goofy to not over-kill the jokes like most the Scary Movie spoofs have? I think so and I am pretty happy about the fact.

The cast here isn’t just a bunch of (mostly) attractive people with big breast and well chiseled chins. The people here seem to actually have great comedic timing! How about that?! It’s a comedy film where the actors actually know how to be funny and they are funny. What a concept huh? With most of the stuff I have seen these days I was starting to think that nobody knew how to make a comedy that was actually funny anymore. Luckily for us all we have Supernatural Activity here to show us that someone out there still knows how to keep things amusing. And while it does seem to give us the rode on special features it is still very much worth checking out.
