If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if Timur Bekmambetov mainlined a Red Bull, rewatched every “man on the run” thriller from the last 20 years, and said “yeah, I can make this louder,” then congratulations—Mercy is your answer.

Starring Chris Pratt doing his patented “confused but determined guy who somehow becomes an action hero” routine, Mercy is the kind of movie that sprints full speed from scene to scene like it’s being chased by its own script. And honestly? That might be for the best, because if it ever slowed down long enough to think about what it’s doing… things might fall apart real quick.

Pratt is… Pratt. He’s likable, he’s quippy, and he spends a solid chunk of the movie looking like he just realized he left the stove on. It works, mostly because the film doesn’t ask him to do much beyond survive increasingly ridiculous situations and occasionally look emotional in dim lighting.

Bekmambetov, known for his chaotic visual style, directs like he’s allergic to stillness. The camera swoops, spins, glitches, and probably files for workers’ comp by the third act. It’s flashy, it’s excessive, and sometimes it feels like the movie is trying to distract you from asking very reasonable questions like, “Wait… why is any of this happening?”

That said—credit where it’s due—Mercy is rarely boring. It’s the cinematic equivalent of junk food: greasy, overstuffed, and you immediately question your choices afterward… but while you’re in it, you’re kinda having a good time.

Does it reinvent the action thriller? Not even a little. Does it care? Also no.

Final verdict: Mercy is messy, loud, and held together with duct tape and charisma—but if you’re in the mood for a turn-your-brain-off ride led by a very committed Chris Pratt, you could do a lot worse.
