THE best Horror film of 2009!

Grace (2009)
Directed By: Paul Solet (Fangoria: Blood Drive II)

The Prologue
I have always had my eyes glued to the world of horror online, way before I ever started this blog and as a result I had heard of Grace long before I finally got around to seeing it. I don’t know why I always put it off but for one reason or another I did. So here I sit on February 22nd of 2010 just having watched Grace for the very first time and I will now say that I am ashamed of myself for waiting this long because what we have here in my humble option is THE best horror film of 2009.

So right up front here I just want to say, if you have heard negative things about this film then by all means if you are a horror fan sweep it under the rug because this film is not only just about perfectly made, it will also chill you to the bone.

The Movie
After losing her unborn child, Madeline Matheson (the ever lovely and talented Jordan Ladd) insists on carrying the baby to term. Following the delivery, the child miraculously returns to life, and you just KNOW that can’t be a good thing!

Coming from a man let me just say there are a lot of things about women and child birth as a whole that can freak a guy out. Now thanks to the work of one Paul Solet I am even more freaked out about the whole thing. Everything in this movie, that includes things that are just out of left field creepy, are played by the mother of this child as if it’s just as normal as burping a baby. This only amps up the already creepy feeling you get from the film right off the bat.

You can find yourself at times being forced to perhaps pick between the less of two evils as Ladd’s character Madeline is seen showing signs of going off the deep end herself, and after all who could blame her with what she goes through in the film. But added on top of what I’ve already mentioned is a very over protective Mother in law that is a few fries short of a Happy Meal herself..So where else is there to go for a woman who just wanted to be a mother and ends up getting oh so much more than anyone would have ever imagined.

I’m not going to spoil anything for those of you who still might not have seen this movie but take it from me, there are very VERY disturbing things going on in this film from just about the start of it to the end. It hold your attention, it tries to make you make sense of just what in the hell is going on before you, and it’s so attention keeping that the time flies by while watching it.

Jordan Ladd and Gabrielle Rose both turn out performances in this movie that are worthy of some type of award or recognition. I always knew Jordan Ladd was good but I had no idea she was THIS good.

As you all know I’m a big fan of the gore and we get the good stuff here and we get it in ways that make you squirm and wiggle in your seat as you watch it happen. Not just gore for the sake of gore here, it all oddly enough makes sense, has a reason, and packs a hell of a punch.

Like I said, the best horror film of 2009.

The Conclusion
Grace ranks right up there to me with Splinter as one of the most original and creative films I’ve seen come out in years. We got gore, we got suspense, we got good acting, and when it’s all added up you find yourself having fun watching a very well made film.

This is a film you’ll want to for sure check out, so you might as well just buy it because you’ll want to watch it again later I’m sure.
