Goodbye 2010, Hello 2011

What? It’s almost the end of another year? I swear these things have a way of just creeping right up on you. It just seems like yesterday I was writing one of these for the start of 2010, and now here I sit about to do the same for 2011. It’s always an odd feeling when you close out one year and head into the next. At times it can feel kind of sad to see a year go, and even more of a bitter sweet feeling when you look back at the last 365 days of your life and remember all the good and the bad that went down. Then again, it’s always exciting to try to look forward and hope for the best in the new year. Because you never know what the future holds, not in life, and especially not in the world of horror…

When the year kicked off we were all wondering just what we’d get when we “Let the right one in”, returned to Elm Street, when the Wolfman once again howled at the moon, and when a number of people were connected ass to mouth for our shockingly fun viewing pleasure, and we found all that out in due time. We saw what could very well be the end of the SAW franchise, we saw another chapter be written into the lore of Paranormal Activity, we saw unrated horror attempt to make a stand, faith once again played a massive part in our world of horror and we seen not once but twice that being a babysitter is a very dangerous thing to try to be. We were um..graced?..by the presents of a very twisted and dark tale that shocked us all, and we were pleasantly surprised by a dead hooker in a trunk, a very close family, and by some THING that was in the woods. Sure we were disappointed time, and time, and time again..but isn’t the fact we never really know what we are going to get with the movies we look forward to the most part of the excitement?  All bets are usually off when it comes to horror and as 3D took full flight with a remake about Piranha, we were treated to not one but I dare say two other remakes that didn’t totally suck Some of us were lucky enough to see films that most of you won’t be seeing til next year, and all the same, some of us saw movies we wish we had never seen at all. Yes, 2010 was packed with all sorts of highs and lows, some we probably forgot here, but I can say that no matter what, it was at least a lot of fun when it came to the horror films of 2010…

But 2010 wasn’t without it’s sad moments as we lost Corey Haim, Dennis Hopper, and way too many other people to mention. The sad fact is, ever year comes with it’s loses, we always end up with people no longer with us once the year wraps. We hope against it, but it’s just one of those things we have to deal with. Let us hope that in 2011 we keep everyone, even with the sad fact being we know when all is said and done, we probably won’t…

In the world of the online horror community, I think we learned that some “Blogosphere” contest are better left alone and I also learned that some jokes just aren’t very funny. Horrorblips bit the dust, sites came and sites went, and we all, I think, learned a thing or two, or at least we should have anyway about how to treat each other. While I myself (as you all know) had my own ups and downs when it comes to this line of “work”, I’m happy to say all (more or less) was resolved and I’m now very happy doing what I’m doing between here and Horrorphilia, and I’m very happy to report that Zombies DON’T Run is finishing the year out with nearly triple the readership and numbers it started the year out with. We also learned that Andre Dumas really does look like that chick from Superbad!!

But what’s to come in 2011?? We’ll a lot if you take a glimpse ahead…

Ghost Face will once again return to reek havoc in Scream 4, but will it still be the same? The Texas Chainsaw Massacre will once again fire up the saw, only this time it’ll be in 3D. We get another load of remakes that we’ll hope for the best on, but probably end up hating like the remake of Fright Night, and we’ll get to take a look at what seems to be very serious dose of creepy in Super 8. But that’s not all, that doesn’t even scratch the surface of it. Much more will come our way in 2011, some I’m sure we’ll love, and some I’m sure we’ll hate. Just what will be THE movie of 2011 when all is said and done? Something that gets a major release, or something from the indie world? What unexpected hits come our way? Just what shock and drama do we have coming as well? Because you just KNOW in this community, with this genre, it’s coming…

I’m afraid I don’t have those answers now, but come this time next year I will and you will to. But no matter what 2011 has in store for us all rest a sure, lord willing, I’ll be here ranting and raving through it all keeping you up to date. And also in 2011 I won’t be here alone doing it.

I hope you’ve all had a great 2010, I hope you’ve had a blast reading this blog, snd I hope you continue to keep reading as we all head right smack into 2011..

Hope you all have an awesome New Year everyone!
