Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013) (Movie Review)
Directed By: James Wan
Starring: Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Barbara Hershey
Rated: R
The haunted Lambert family seeks to uncover the mysterious childhood secret that has left them dangerously connected to the spirit world. Also, following the events of the first Insidious, just what has followed Josh back from the other side? Is Josh even Josh? Find out all this and more in James Wan’s follow up to the horror favorite Insidious, Insidious: Chapter 2.
After James Wan’s releasing of The Conjuring many were wondering of his follow-up to Insidious would be able to keep the string of great horror films going for Wan. I will admit that Insidious Chapter: 2 isn’t as good as the original, but it is still very darn good. Don’t worry, James Wan didn’t use all his jump tricks for The Conjuring, this movie packs many of those as well. It also goes about things in a different way hitting us with jumps we don’t always see coming because they aren’t traditional to ghost films. If there is one thing that does hurt the film, it would be that the story is just a little week as it tries to tie all the loose ends together from the first film.
We really do dive down into the story of our “old woman” ghost from the first film. I’m not sure all will like what we find, but the movie does give us some legit creepy moments that are visually haunting and stunning if nothing else. Also, the comic relief doesn’t seem as out of place here when it happens. That was one very annoying thing from the first. Look, if you like James Wan films you will certainly like Insidious: Chapter 2. The movie isn’t as strong as The Conjuring or Insidious, but it blows 98% of other ghost and demonic movies you see coming out these days out of the water easily.
