Young adults at a first-time offenders’ boot camp discover the legend of the giant lumberjack Paul Bunyan is real, but is much more horrifying than they could have imagined.
FUN! That is what you get out of a film like this. The plot is pretty crazy and the concept is one that has to be seen. Still, it makes for a really funny film and adds a little something different to the slasher sub-genre. I don’t think I know anyone that wouldn’t have fun watching a giant lumberjack going on a blood rampage of revenge over an Ox. If that whole idea doesn’t do anything for you, then I’m not sure we should be friends. What we get here with this is ridiculous. A giant sawing people in half with one big swing is just ridiculous, but it is a fun type of ridiculous. This isn’t some lame shark-tapuss-cat movie, this one is halfway enjoyable.
Naturally we have gore here. There are some spotty CGI moments, but they can be somewhat forgiven due to the results and how creative some of the kills using the CGI are. People are cut in half, heads are cut off, giant saw blades play a nice part in the kill factor and all is done well and in an amusing fashion. Will this movie lead to people demanding more adventures of Paul Bunyan running around with his giant axe? I’m not sure of that just yet. Still, it isn’t bad having at least one film packing that type of story. I totally recommend this, especially if you love comedic slashers.
