This British movie is about a group of inept criminals who decide to rob a bank so they can save their grandfather’s retirement home from being demolished by developers. Meanwhile on another building site some workers dig up an old graveyard and they get bitten by the “undead” which sets off a chain reaction. Then the bank robbers are cornered by the police while in the process of the robbery, but when they exit they find that they are all dead as a result of the horde of zombies. They have to get to the retirement home before the zombies do!
With the recent boom period of the zombie horror film we’ve seen a zillion or more zombie flicks come out, but vary rarely do they deliver the goods or bring something new to the table. Cockneys vs Zombies brings something new and fun to the table. It delivers from all areas that I think matter in a horror film in general, not just a zombie movie. The movie is funny, bloody, and delivers in brings fresh and exciting characters to your screen. It is the arthritis ridden elderly against the rigor mortis ridden dead for a good part of the film and it is some of the most fun you will have watching a horror film this year.
You get a hybrid here that is part comedy, part crime film, and part horror film. All the elements that make both great are here and it boils down to an exciting film that never bores you and stays fun until the very end. Does the film pack a few corny moments? It does, but it is hard to make something like this without walking the line of corny from time to time. Still, this movie is full of quality and the transfer is right up there to match it as everything looks clean and clear with tons of details and beautiful shots. If you want something different this movie is different. This ends up being of the best horror comedy films to come along in a long time.
