Being born in 1983, I was lucky enough to live through the golden era of the home video store. I was probably five when I first started waiting until the weekends to rent the latest releases and this was what introduced me to the world of horror films. As we all know and as I have stated on this site before, those days are all but gone. Today we have Netflix, Redbox, and even Blockbuster Video has degraded down from an actual store to a box on a corner. Still Ryan (Dr. Groosome from the Podcast) and I set out like we always do on most weekends seeking DVDs, Blu-rays, and even classic VHS tapes. We went to a part of our home area that we hadn’t been to before and found a small video store called “Harold’s Satellite and Video”, one of the very few remaining video stores in the area. And it was in this store that we found what is very rare these days, original VHS tapes from all genres still setting on the racks and still being rented out.
The store still had DVDs but the selection of VHS would blow your mind. And, YES, there were plenty of old school horror releases on VHS setting there to taunt us in their awesomeness. Naturally we did make an attempt to buy a lot of what we found, but Harold wasn’t selling. He wasn’t not selling because he was fond of these, he just didn’t want to part with them because he said some of them still rent! Needless to say in my shock and awe of this find I took a lot of pictures. Below you will find the pictures, click them to enlarge them, and be ready to be taken back in amazement.
