The legend of Yamashita’s Gold lures a treasure hunter and his group deep into the Indonesian jungle. Once they are trapped in an abandoned World War II Japanese bunker, they face the terrifying reality that the only way out is to go further in.
I liked director Steven Sheil’s Mum and Dad way back in 2008, but this one just doesn’t seem to have the same fire or fun that movie had. It feels at times like this is just too serious and dull, which is never a good combination. I don’t know if they were going for an Alien or a Decent vibe with the setting and how it plays out, but I would say it didn’t hit either. And, with a cast like this, you wouldbe expect a lot better action and drama than we end up having.
The movie looks good enough and as noted you have a good cast of actors for a plot and a story of this nature, it just didn’t deliver on the goods when you get down to the beef of it all. The story sounds good, but it doesn’t go enough into those areas. I also think any time you are getting bored with a movie that it is never a good thing. This one had a LOT of promise. It just didn’t add up to what it could have at the end.
