Kevin Pacalioglu (Labine) may have no money and no clue, but he can see dead people, so that’s pretty cool. Faced with a constant stream of stubborn spirits, Pac goes to whatever lengths require the least amount of effort to help New York City’s most frivolous ghosts finish their unfinished business.
We’ve got ten episodes here that make up season 1 of this HULU original series. And, what do you get with a show like this? Well, it reminds me a bit of a Kevin Smith movie. We have an overweight lead that would just assume smoke pot and crack jokes than do anything of any importance with his power and that is pretty much what you get as this slacker of sorts slacks his way through ten episodes managing to help out to spite himself. If you are into a slacker of an anti-hero and like this sort of thing, then you’ll be happy with what you end up with. There are a couple memorable characters and a few shows did manage to get a laugh or two out of me, but I’d be a liar if I didn’t admit to this show really not at all being my cup of tea.
The season as a whole is laid out OKAY. Things happen in one show that might be brought back up or what have you on another episode. It might be alright if you’ve seen the show and want to skip around, but everyone else will want to take this one episode at a time if you can. The casting isn’t bad, as everyone fits the parts enough, but I just don’t see enough from season 1 to make me want to actually get invested enough for another season of our slacking medium that is the Deadbeat series. It isn’t awful and I’m sure people will dig it, but I don’t think I’m the target audience for this sort of thing.
