A New York police officer Ralph Sarchie (Eric Bana) begins investigating a series of bizarre and disturbing inexplicable crimes. When he uncovers that the crimes are of super-natural origins, he must join forces with an unconventional priest (Edgar Ramirez), schooled in the rituals of exorcism, to combat the frightening and demonic possessions that are taking over and terrorizing their city. Filled with action and thrilling suspense, the film is inspired by the book, which details Sarchie’s bone-chilling real-life cases.

Here we have the odd cop movie/Spooky hybrid that isn’t seen that often, but seems solid enough when it does pop up. I’d call this movie another solid film, but I would stop short of calling it a “must see” film. It seems like a run of the mill detective story until we start seeing some strange things pop up. More and more follows until our leads find that they have some thing in their case. There are a few creative ideas, some are done well and some aren’t done as well. The movie might seem a bit re-hashed from the horror side of things for those of us who have seen a whole heck of a lot of horror, but there is enough there to at least make you want to stick around and see how everything ends up playing out. And, for what it is worth, there is at least one really cool scene most will want to check out for themselves.

There is a real serious tone to the film. Maybe there is a bit too much of a serious tone and there isn’t a whole lot of fun to found at the end of the day. I’m not saying that the movie isn’t solid, but I fear they are trying to accomplish something they failed at and as a result things are just too serious toned and seems more like an adult horror than a fun horror. It is a movie that might be worth a watch, but I’m not sure of the re-watch value unfortunately. The transfer at least looks nice. There is a lot of dark scenes, but they are presented well.
