In this darkly comic satire of suburban married life, mild-mannered Walter Fletcher discovers the perfect antidote to marriage to an ambitious, attractive wife is getting his name in the paper…even if it means he has to kill a person or five. But just as his new hobby seems to be working, a series of brutal and stylish murders by “The Sweetheart Killer” steal his limelight. Will Walter’s newly discovered competitive streak re-kindle his marriage? Or does “The Sweetheart Killer” hit a little too close to home?
Seems like we are getting the horror equivalent of Mr & Mrs Smith here with this film. Taking the place of spies is crazed killers who just so happen to be married to one another. As you can probably guess by now, this movie is a horror comedy. There are some things that do work very well like the gore and the actors, but there is also some things that don’t work well at all. I think some parts have too much of a cartoon feel to them. You don’t want to go too much into the deep with the comedic stuff and this film does do that from time to time.
The acting here does help things. You may remember Raine Brown from other indie horror films and she plays her role very well. Billy Garbrina (who also directs) is a good man to have on board in front of the camera. I just think every now and again he was forgetting he wasn’t making a Chris Seaver film and as a result plays things a little too silly every once in a while. You also do get some nie bloody moments. That never hurts anything and I’m sure most of you agree. The film may not blow anyone away, but you should at least find it harmless.
