The Secret of the Magic Mushrooms (2009)
Directed By: Christian Markhofs & Werner Timm
Starring: Christian Markhofs, Werner Timm
Two young friends go deep in the woods to camp and drink. As they are totally drunk a terrible accident happens and one of the friends loses his life. But is death really the end? Maybe a handful of those legendary magic mushrooms can bring him back to life… A wild odyssey begins that has never been witnessed before. Our hero has to face the most weird characters and creatures but the will to make his friend live again lets him get through the most dangerous adventures. But there is one last question that remains: Will the mushrooms have the expected effect?
This movie really is a two man show for the most part. We have the directors playing different roles and even tossing in themselves watching the movie as part of the movie. The movie can get rather comedic at times, but it can also get very dull for way too long. The last part of the film is where the real gore and the better pace comes inti play. Of course, by that time things are ending and we’ve already seen over an hour of just snail moving character development, weird plot, and cartoonish characters. The movie does need credit for the effort, but it won’t hold many people’s attention.
Teenape Vs. The Monster Nazi Apocalypse (2012)
Directed By: Chris Seaver
Starring: Jesse Ames, Nicola Fiore, Billy Garberina
In 1945, the members of P.I.A. (Paranormal Investigation Agency) landed in Nazi Germany and defeated Hitler and his evil scheme to unleash genetically engineered man-monsters on the world. What they didn’t know was that Hitler’s right-hand assistant, retained a vial of his DNA! Now she plans to bring him and his creatures back and start the Fourth Reich. Only Teen Ape and his new team can save the world from doom!
Here we got another film from Chris Seaver, a director that is known for doing pretty cool things with little money. I’ve been hit and miss on some of his films along the way. This one was a bit of a mixed bag for me overall. I thought the plot was well done and the dialogue was also funny in spots and hilarious in others. The film does suffer from having some things just not work out well at all for them, like the random way we lose some key characters. Some of Chris’ better films would come later, but this is a good example of him making things watchable with whatever he has.
Attack of the Tromaggot (2008)
Directed By: Leslie Teah
Starring: Sebastian Gutsche, Alexandra Rothert, Dante Vegas
The illegal activities of the Mucus Mucus Coporation have left the sewers of Maggotown full of toxic waste. When a tiny maggot escapes froma nearby lab and falls down a drain, directly into a the deadly chemicals, it mutates into the horrifying Tromaggot, a bloodthirsty beast! Will the incompetent police force of Maggotown stop the monster before it’s too late?
This is a film that was done in tribute to the way of Troma and it fits in very well with what it presents to us, the viewers. The plot is wild and crazy. The gore gets rather gross and it tries to turn our stomachs in spots as well. Perhaps we are missing a key lead here and there, but what we get is so wild and over the top that most probably won’t mind. The movie could have used a little trimming, but I think overall the end results is a good and wild time on screen. Anyone who does love Troma will find themselves right at home with this one.
