During World War II, a small German squadron was assigned the task of carrying a shipment of Nazi gold across the African desert. Along the way, the squadron was ambushed by the Allies, and only one American soldier, Robert, survived. Years later, Robert tells his story to a German treasure hunter named Kurt, who promptly murders him. Robert’s son, upon learning of his father’s death, vows to travel to Africa and find the lost gold himself. While the desert is hazardous enough by itself, the dangers lurking around this oasis are more than any of the treasure hunters ever imagined.
Now when we do see the zombies (or Nazi zombies if you will), they look pretty cool for what they are. Some are more deformed than others and some look a little dopey eyed but still I’ll call a spade and spade and give that some credit. It’s just a real shame we don’t get to see more of them. We get some old school goodness with the vibe and feel. We get some naked-ness, be it nothing to write home about. But at the end you find yourself a little disappointed that the title doesn’t really live up to itself. Plus, there’s not THAT many of the zombies. Also they come and go and are more about protecting their old stuff rather than eating people. That’s a bit of a bummer, but at least the transfer its self is far superior to any version of this I’ve seen.
A lot of this movie is spent on character development. But the characters are kind of lame so that’s nothing to write home about either. You really just want to bypass all that jabber and get to the part where mofos get ate! But even when that comes it’s not really gory so we never do seem to get rewarded. Also, I know they are looking for stuff here. But why why why do we have to have most of this movie just be following along with people as they look for things?? This isn’t antiques road show is it?? At times you sure could have been fooled going by what we see most off in this movie. So as the movie comes to its grand conclusion you might notice that almost as soon as the action finally starts to pickup it ends. Not just the action, but the movie. The ending is a little underwhelming and I’m not 100% sure if it makes 100% sense, but it is what it is for Nazi zombies after all!
