Odd Thomas is a polished film. Is it too polished for the horror fans? Who knows! The fact is we have a film here that is a horror fantasy in a lot of ways with action and a very VERY good cast. Thomas coming alive on the screen is far better than Thomas in the books in my personal opinion. Many might not like that statement, but the visual of it seems to really drive the thing home. I must point out the casting of Willem Defoe. That is a man who does everything right and I believe he is a big shining part of this film. Things stay interesting in this one and I believe it actually ends up better than most would assume.
And we can’t deny how cool of a concept this film has as well. A guy who can see dead people has been done before, but it really works out here. I do wish that the film could have seemed a little more dark and less light hearted at times, but it kicks the crap out of other films that came from teen books like Twilight. No, it doesn’t follow every little thing from the book, but I don’t think anyone will mind. It is about as solid as something like this can get. The transfer is also nearly flawless.
