Rey develops her newly discovered abilities with the guidance of Luke Skywalker, who is unsettled by the strength of her powers. Meanwhile, the Resistance prepares to do battle with the First Order.

The new Disney era of Star Wars films started off great in my opinion. The Force Awakens was a fun adventure that gave us new characters mixed with old ones that would not only help transfer the story but keep it fresh for years to come. Rogue One was also a very solid film and I probably liked it better than I did The Force Awakens if I am, to be honest with you. But now we have The Last Jedi. A story that gives us more pieces of the overall story moving along while also giving us Luke Skywalker, but the story did stumble a time or two and there were things plot-wise that just did not do this entry into the Star Wars franchise any favors. For starters, I’m not sure I’m a fan of how Luke was used here. We waited for a new Star Wars films before and only got him for the end of it and now here he is but I don’t know if I’d say he ever really feels like the Luke we’ve all known and grew to love in the cinematic history that is Star Wars. I know why they went for some stuff they go for here but I just don’t think I’d call it the right move overall. Luke and Leia are issues I have with this film.

The new generation of characters they have here are still doing good from an acting standpoint even if the material they have here is a bit questionable at times. I do think Daisy Ridley is really standing out in the best way possible in her role as Rey but some of the stuff with her and Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren could be enough to bug some Star Wars fans. I’m not sure the direction and overall emo nature of Kylo is a good thing or not at this point as he seems to be bringing in more online memes than he is praise for the character. Visually this film is a sight to see as pretty much every Star Wars movie is. The world created and the look of it never does let anyone down in a Star Wars movie and this one packs that and TONS of extras for everyone to enjoy. The plot, however, might be the issue here. I hope for the next one we see this series bounce back to at least a “The Force Awakens” area.
