Sadako waits, a vicious spirit, hungry for blood and souls. What began as a haunted videotape, passed from hand to cursed hand all those years ago in THE RING, has only gotten easier to find. Sadako waits. And it’s not just on tape anymore. At a local high school, there is a rumor. An online video of someone committing suicide. If it were only a prank, or the work of a deranged artist in town, the students wouldn’t be killing themselves after watching it, would they? The police would have a theory about the quickly-growing body count? And what about the woman in white with long hair? Sadako is always hungry. And she’s no longer alone.
Well the current surge of VHS hasn’t come back to The Ring series as this time around we have pretty much the same classic format only online to give it an up to-date feeling. While a lot of these movies can be found guilty of showing creepy stuff on the screen just for the sake of showing creepy stuff, it works more or less here. We still have pointless creepy stuff on screen, but it seems to be all for a purpose for the most part.
I don’t know if we really care about our characters, yet we stay interested in this film. Things move along well enough and obvious CGI aside things are done in a way to keep most horror fans happy. While I’m sure this is a very nice 3D experience, I think the transfer here lacks in the basic Blu-ray form just slightly. Some of what we see looks great and at other times just looks alright. The most important thing is the movie and the movie is scary enough and good for the most part.
