Two alternative food researchers (Farrah Fawcett and Kirk Douglas) stationed in the rings off Saturn work in romantic and professional bliss until their perfect lives are disrupted by the intrusion of Benson (Harvey Keitel), sent to speed up the scientists’ work. But Fawcett’s looks and charm ensnare the captain, creating a tense threesome.
We got a Mexican stand-off in the love form here as two men and a robot wage war in the stars over a very attractive Farrah Fawcett. Outside of the twelve foot robot, we have the two men played by Kirk Douglas and Harvey Keitel. So, the actor chops is here, I just wish the movie timed its self much better than it actually does. Outside of that, the movie is certainly a visually stunning affair that makes for a great visual, especially in HD. We even get a few moments of gore, some of which that are very cool, tossed in to try to hold our interest. If only the movie didn’t move at a snails pace.
You can’t help but notice that perhaps the people behind this film was trying for a little social commentary when dealing with a robot that gets its ways of learning from a man only for things to go wrong. However, this isn’t 1970s/early 80s Romero. This film is by Stanly Donen and while it isn’t horrible, I think the commentary does seem to fall a little flat. If you are a fan of this slow paced science fiction odyssey, then you will want this Blu-ray for sure. The transfer alone should warrant that. If you aren’t a fan of the film before, this one might not be your cup of tea overall.
