After a Soviet space station crashes into a New York City subway tunnel, a species of venomous spiders is discovered, and soon they mutate to gigantic proportions and wreak havoc on the city.
Let us not confuse this movie with much of what you see being thrown at you from Asylum and the SyFy channel, because this movie is better done in a lot of ways than that stuff. Yes, we have a plot that is crazy and nine shades of ridiculous and we even have some questionable CGI spiders all over the place, but the story is just better made and doesn’t attack your ever fiber and being while watching. That alone is a victory for Spiders. This is a movie you check your brain at the door with and you leave it there. If you follow that simple step you will find yourself more tolerable of what you see.
And what we do see is a whole heck of a lot of big CGI spiders. I normally hate spiders and they creep me out, but the CGI aspect of it all does sort of kill that arcana phobia vibe pretty quick. I still would say that in this movies defense it knows what it is and at least packs a fair pace to try to keep you invested in the outcome. I would think you’d expect what you get going into this one. I don’t think anyone is going to go into watching this expecting something to rival the likes of The Exorcist in horror quality. If you lower your levels of expectations to a Birdemic level you might find that this one well exceeds that.
