In this highly anticipated new season, we see Rick and the group of survivors fostering a thriving community in the safe haven of the prison. Sadly, in this brutal world, happiness is short-lived and walkers and outside threats are no match for danger brewing inside the fences. The group’s home and new way of life will be thoroughly tested, and their struggle to survive has never been so perilous. Season 4 also introduces several new characters including Bob Stookey (Lawrence Gilliard Jr., The Wire).

It’s hard to believe it has been four years since Rick woke up in a world overrun by zombies in 2010, but here we are in 2014 and I don’t think the show is showing any signs of slowing down in popularity as the fourth seasons comes to us on Blu-ray from Anchor Bay. Every season of the Walking Dead has been a must-see up until this point and I think that streak continues. I usually wait for the seasons because I hate waiting for a week to see what will happen next and during season 4 here I bing watched the season like I always do. The drama is perhaps even higher than the zombie count here as we see our cast seem to get in deeper and deeper as the season rolls along. The show gave us reasons to like Rick once again and fans of Daryl Dixon should be even bigger fans once the season wraps. I do wish we had some more zombie action to go along with the rest, but I don’t think anyone who reviews this will let the review go by without saying the same. Outside of that, I don’t have much in the way of a complaint.

There are tense moments, bloody moments, and the shows give us some teary-eyed moments as well. You never know who will survive and the show does what it can to make us care about characters just so we can feel the most from what happened to them, be it good or bad. Is this my favorite season of the show? Well, it’s hard to say. I did still enjoy this season none the less and the writing has me chopping at the bit for season 5 perhaps more so than any other season I’ve waited for. That is a job well done for The Walking Dead season 4. Also, for you HD nuts out there, I think you will love the transfer if you can appreciate the gritty nature of it. It’s true to the source and has great detail that goes well with the environment. It isn’t meant to be eye-popping pretty, but it does the job as perfect as it needs to in the style of the show. Overall, this is a great release.
