Sexy, sinful horror host Mona Screamalot (Penthouse Pet Veronica Ricci) and her crazy backwoods family invite you to take a seat on the couch as they serve up six sick short films from their secret stash of horror trash. Featuring the work of emerging genre directors, this is a bloody and brain-numbing buffet of the bizarre.
This is a tough one for me. I can appreciate the time and effort that goes into making something like this because I’ve been there. I know this was a movie that was made not for money, but by people who love the genre. The sad thing is, while I liked it better than the original, I’m still not sold on Treasure Chest of Horrors. We get great eye candy in our host, Veronica Ricci, but the actual shorts just lack for me overall and I think they will for a lot of folks as well unfortunately.
The film on a bright side is a bit of a throwback to stuff like Woodchipper Massacre and Cannibal Campout. The movie does give us that old school shot on video feel. I just wish they used a much more broader appeal and more blood to help wrap up the finished product. So it is a nice effort from people with pure intentions, it just doesn’t work as well as I’m sure everyone would have hoped.
