One think most horror fans can appreciate about Masters of the Universe was the rouges gallery of strange villains that He-man would have to dispose of weekly. Some were somewhat similar to horror movie icons (remember Beast Man looked A LOT like the classic Wolfman). But some..some were just…strange.
That leads us to Stinkor! (I assume that’s a pun at the term Stinker). Stinkor looked like a cross between a skunk, a gremlin, and a Shih Tzu puppy. But of course his gimmick was he was a giant skunk-man who wore armor that well..stunk.
In what was either a horrible mistake or a mark of marketing brilliance, the Stinkor action figure actually smelt horrible! While in the comics (He never was actually in a cartoon), Stinkor may have had power to control his bad smell the action came with a stench that couldn’t be turned off.
In all seriousness, the smell that came from the action figure was that of patchouli oil and Stinkor was actually one of just three toys Mattel every produced with an actual (not just the rubber) smell with the other two being Moss Man (one of my favorites) and Perfuma from She-Ra.
Naturally these elements made Stinkor more than just a rip-off of Mer-man of who he shared the same mold with in the 80′s toy line. It made Stinkor one of everyone’s favorites from the entire line. In a little known fact, I actually still have my Stinkor somewhere, I just didn’t feel like digging through all my old junk to find it.
But either way, lets hear it for Stinkor! The only Skunk I didn’t mind the smell of.
