Oh my! It’s more of the same..naturally.

The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation of Toxie (1989)
Directed By: Lloyd Kaufman & Michael Herz (The Toxic Avenger)

The Prologue
As I said in my review of The Toxic Avenger Part II, it was originally one looong movie that was split up. So here we have the second part of that, The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation of Toxie. Now this film does a find job of closing the holes from the previous installment in Troma’s The Toxic Avenger franchise, but it doesn’t bring too much to the table either unfortunately. So here we go boys and girls, ready or not! I think you already know what’s coming.

The Movie
So when we last left off Toxie had ran Apocalypse Inc. out of Tromaville and this saved the day again! Now once more Toxie finds he has nothing else to do, and also since being a hero doesn’t pay he’s a little bummed out that he has no money to get his lady, Claire an operation to restore her sight. And so Apocalypse sees an opening to return! This time tricking Toxie into working for them in order to not only get him out of the way but to turn the whole town against him!!! Also this time around, the evil chairman of Apocalypse Inc. shows us who he REALLY is!! *insert evil laugh*

So Toxie isn’t running off to Tokyo this time around he’s staying in Tromaville! And while the movie isn’t THAT much better than part 2, it’s at least better fitting I think than the Japan stuff. Claire is still annoying, Toxie is still funny, and things are still over the top. This time around we do get a little bit more gore however. And we all know that goes a long way with me. Also the story this here in part 3 (as it should) feels like more of a payoff from the last as Toxie does battle with the fallen angel himself! And while I doesn’t make a difference, why isn’t Satan red???

Now the movie does seem to drag a bit. And I also have yet to find out why all the sudden the toxins in Toxie that cause him to go crazy when evil is around in part 2 seem to be gone now in part 3. The film does lose you from time to time so it’s possible I’ve missed that somewhere. However, I’m willing to bet it probably wasn’t ever explained as details like that seem to get tossed to the side in the world of Troma. I also find it a little funny how Troma basically uses the first scene in the film to advertise other films by them and to promote their own ideas on film making in the world of film all the while working it into the film..nice move Lloyd!

Also I know it’s Troma! (I’ve brought that up already a zillion times) but why on earth do they not do a better job on the editing? In one shot you’ll see a group of villains standing together then we cut to Toxie and then when we cut back to the villains they are all rearranged? Also when the leader of Apocalypse inc. (The Devil) is in a closeup he has some sorta slime dripping on him, but when the same shot cuts out he has none!? Does anyone notice this? Doesn’t anyone editing this care? I know it’s cheap but that stuff just bugs me in any movie.

So you get more of a plot and some more gore in The Toxic Avenger Part III but you don’t get much else of anything that wasn’t already stinking up the place in part 2. I’ve heard both were really bad and while like I said about 2, you get a few laughs, you don’t get much besides that. While fun in spots, watching both back to back is a bit of a hard task to complete so I’d try not to follow my lead and do that anytime soon.

The Conclusion
Well if you’re going to split a long movie into two movies you might as well expect more of the same in both. Not every film done that way can be Kill Bill ya know?  So if you go back and see what I said here about part 2 it’s more of the same here only I’d give this one a very slight edge. But still, not that great at all.
