Clive Barker Raising Hell Over New Hellrasier

Over the past couple days we have seen not only the trailer for the next installment in the Hellraiser franchise, but we’ve also gotten the reaction from Hellrasier creator, Clive Barker. After seeing the trailer for the film, which I wrote about on the most recent Odds And Ends post, I could see why Clive doesn’t want any confusion what so ever on this Hellraiser. Hellraiser: Revelations, to be blunt, is nothing more than a fast entry into the set of films made with no other purpose other than to cash in on a few dollars from hardcore Hellrasier fans and to ensure the rights to the Hellraiser brand stays in someone’s hands. To make matters worse with this film, not only do we get some “clever” character names that play on legends in horror like the names, Dr. Ross Craven and Peter Bradley (take note of those last names), we don’t even have Doug Bradley, THE Pinhead playing Pinhead and this isn’t even the remake. Can you just imagine what it would have been like had in the original A Nightmare on Elm Street series we had an entry without Robert Englund?? It was bad enough when we didn’t have him in the remake. And since I didn’t expect for Doug Bradley to be in the re-make and that sucks in it’s own right, I have noo clue how I can sit through a Hellraiser that’s supposed to be canon with the originals but doesn’t have Bradley. Not saying anything after part three was really great or anything, but we at least had Bradley. Not only do you not have him here, but going by the trailer we have two different Pinheads…What? Take a look at the trailer if you haven’t already..

Now is there any wonder why we got the following statement from Barker’s official Twitter account after seeing that??

“Hello, my friends. I want to put on record that the flic out there using the word Hellraiser IS NO F***IN’ CHILD OF MINE!I have NOTHING to do with the f***in’ thing. If they claim its from the mind of Clive Barker, it’s a lie. It’s not even from my butt-hole.”

Yeah, I hear ya, Clive. But the one thing I have got to wonder is, did Clive not see some of these other Hellraiser films?? I would think he doesn’t care for a great many of them, but I can’t remember him ever being THIS vocal. I mean sure, I could see why as it DOES look terrible. But some of these other entries would have probably made me climb to the top of a water tower and threaten to jump had I been the director of the classic, Hellraiser and saw these other sequels coming out straight to video left and right. So if those were bad and THIS is what gets Clive’s boxer twisted, then this one just HAS to be one of the most horrible things ever on film, right?

I guess we all shall see when this film, Hellraiser: Revelations hits DVD/Blu-ray on August 30th. *shivers*
