Don’t be in the way of a woman trying to get what she wants.

Dream Home (2010)
Directed By: Ho-Cheung Pang

The Prologue
The film, Dream Home, was an Asian slasher of sorts that came out in 2010 but us Americans aren’t really getting our chance to check this out until now. And I think when word of this film starts making it’s way round reviewers all the horror sites who have yet to see it will be jumping at the chance to see it. And with very good reason because this thing gets pretty hardcore at times. Nobody does violence like the Asians and if it wasn’t for just a couple minor bad CGI spots, we are looking something that could have easily been in the 9 or 9 and a half range overall.

The Movie
Cheng Li-sheung is a young, upwardly mobile professional finally ready to invest in her first home. But when the deal falls through, she is forced to keep her dream alive – even if it means keeping her would-be neighbors dead. And for you simple folks out there, you realize that when someone dies in a house or a complex it tends to drop the price and value right? I feel I have to break that down for you because some folks just don’t seem to get it. If the value can drop with just one murder, imagine how cheap it would be if there’s a full blown slaughter! And a slaughter is just what you get with this movie.

You got to love a film that plays with one’s emotions. This film can make you feel like someone is scum of the earth one minute, into feeling kinda bad for them the next. Then it goes back to making you think someone is a heartless mofo. I looove that stuff. And I tend to love most foreign films because they seem to have made an art out of playing with your emotions better than anyone else. Regardless of if it’s a thriller or a s straight up horror films. Another thing that helps with that is a very good story and this movie has just as good a story as it has blood and it’s got tons of that as well.

If you want bloody and creative violence, then Dream Home is for you. This films packs some of the more creative kills I’ve seen and mixes it up with new twists on ones I have seen. Of course there was a time or two that the over the top violence gets a tad bit on the funny or none-logical side, but I guess we can’t be perfect now can we? The film mixes good natural effects with some actual good CGI for once, but unfortunately the CGI curse strikes again in an Asian film as a kill or two is made to look very weak or bad due to some CGI that looks like a cartoon..or a Dreamworks film. Still, if you can look passed that (and I did try to) the rest of the gore and the kills are very VERY good and graphic.

The film isn’t really short, but it feels short because it’s very entertaining. I’d rather be left feeling like I want more than to feel as if I’ve seen too much. And I think anyone who sees this film will love what they see, but still want more. And that is a very good thing. A lot of the scenes and the kills will leave you squirming due to their graphic nature. The violence is over the top and spares no one regardless of who they are or what shape they are in. And making things even better it’s wrapped around a story that is very well written and in tune with society for today. You also have got to love the irony of the film’s last little twist before the credits roll. A nearly flawless film. But the few flaws do take away just a bit from it.

The Conclusion
Let’s hear it again for another great foreign film! Dream Home is a film that will top a lot of year end list (or at least make the list), of the people that get a chance to see it. I hope you take my advice and seek out this movie because it really is worth the effort it might take to find it.
