Killjoy 2: Deliverance from Evil (2002)
Director: Tammi Sutton
Where to get it: Echo Bridge
A group of at-risk youth are on their way to the wilderness for some much-needed rehabilitation. But when their van breaks down and they find themselves in the home of a voodoo woman, Killjoy’s spirit is summoned and it’s more killer clown action in this murderous sequel. However, sadly at the end of the day with Killjoy 2, it doesn’t seem to pack the funny punch as the first or 3rd entry into the film series from Full Moon Entertainment. But I have noticed that it still seems to have a large fan base none the less.
This marks Trent Hagga’s first dip in the role of Killjoy, the killer clown that seems to torment those in urban areas. I enjoy Trent as Killjoy, he’s the lone highlight of this film to be exact. But he plays a whole different style Killjoy than the original person behind the makeup did, and it’s very noticeable. This time around, instead of the hood, the targets of this clowns rage is a group of kids (teens?) getting sent off for being very bad girls and boys. I WISH I could say that the characters we get are fun and interesting, but sadly that isn’t the case. And to top things off, we get some odd word exchange and delivery that makes for a very funny, but not meant to be funny moments. So it’s in that sense that things are amusing at times, but until Killjoy arrives in the last half of the film, there really isn’t THAT much to enjoy on screen.
While you can get a few clever kills, outside what happens to Killjoy later in the film, there isn’t that much gore on screen. But even if you can look over that, it’s hard to overlook what the characters are doing, seeing how a lot of it doesn’t make a whole bunch of sense. One scene shows members of this group break into a home only for one to run into some issues when the home owner (as redneck as they are) are home. Now, where I come from breaking into someone’s home is ground for some trouble. But this film goes as far as it could to make the person who had their home broken into look like our bad guy in this situation. It’s stuff like that which makes this movie impossible to take seriously. So if you go into watching it, keeping in mind it gets really hairy until Killjoy shows up. Even then, it’s not what we might be expecting and wanting. But Killjoy himself do pack the film’s best moments.
