Love Object (2003)
Directed By: Robert Parigi

The Prologue
Oh some guys just have all the luck don’t they? They know how to talk to the women, romance the women, and keep the women hanging on. Matter of fact, it’s usually the girl that some lonely or awkward guy wants that falls for this type of dude. In the movie Love Object however our main man is very awkward and weird indeed. But his major competition isn’t someone else, it’s himself. So to get over this he does what anyone would do and well..he buys a sex doll. Funny and twisted stuff follows I assure you.

The Movie
The twisted tale of Kenneth, socially insecure technical writer who forms an obsessive relationship with “Nikki”, an anatomically accurate silicone sex doll he orders over the Internet. Because of his experience with his new toy, Kenneth’s life takes a turn for the better when his new found romantic skills attract the attention of Lisa, a co-worker at his office.

Some guys just need help getting up the courage to ask out the chick they’ve always wanted. And thus what happens with Kenneth here in this twisted but often times more funny than scary tale. I guess the best way to put it is, this film is like the twisted brother to the movie Lars and a Real Girl. Desmond Harrington does an outstanding job playing the role of Kenneth who just needs that extra “push” to take a chance on his co-worker Lisa, sadly however that push comes after he gets himself a very expensive sex doll.

Now that may sound weird but really it’s harmless. The trouble comes later when after Lisa agrees to date Kenneth he starts getting the idea that the doll has become jealous. Not only that, but the dolls seems to be doing some pretty un-doll-like things. Is the doll really to blame? Is Kenneth going crazy?? Well, you’ll have to watch it to find out but I assure you while things may slow down at times, it’s worth watching to find out. And don’t let the “slow down” comment get to you, the comedy (and yes it has plenty of that, just an odd sense of it) will keep you interested.

While the film may drag just a little in parts it’s main crime is perhaps rushing people’s emotions in this film a little too quickly as people seem to fall in and out of certain emotions at times a little too quickly. But then again, given what goes down in the film perhaps that’s not really THAT much of a stretch. I mean you may care for someone, but how will you feel when you find out that person loved a doll??

One thing that does set this different from other tales of lonely people and their sex dolls, is the fact this movie is pretty much all about the sex. Where in the other films like this, loneliness is the underlying theme, it’s just all about the humping here. That could turn a few of you away but if you got a twisted sense of humor you’ll dig this. It also packs a very twisted ending that may make or break it for you if you do or don’t find it satisfying.

The Conclusion
Maybe it’s more funny than scary but it’s worth seeing for sure. If I did the thumbs thing I’d give it a thumbs up but since I don’t I’ll just say since it’s instant on Netflix go give it a watch NOW.

But keep in mind you will need a rather odd sense of humor to really dig it. That being said it’s a very perverted good time.
