I did a little post awhile back about the soon to be released Camp Retro 80′s set that comes with the lost super 8 anthology film, The Basement. The set has 5 films overall with a VHS copy of The Basement rounding out the kick-ass set. Now the street date for the set is September 13th, 2011, but I am fortunate enough to be able to give you a bit of a look at just how awesome this thing really is….
The set as a whole comes in a very large VHS style box. It’s for certain a major attention getter, as it didn’t set on my shelf long before people were already asking questions about it. You’ll notice the very cool cover art for the box, and while you can’t see it in the grimy picture here (nice touch for a super 8 film right?), the art on the box has gory scene stills on the back and even on the side.
When you open this bad boy up (and I bet many of you will want to keep it closed, since I’m sure it’ll be a collector’s item), you’ll be greeted by the DVD portion of the set. The DVD has the same art as the box and inside the case it has all the movies on three very snugged in discs. But I’m sure you are wanting a shot at the meat and potatoes of the set, right?
When you lift out the DVD, you’ll find the red colored VHS version of the film. As many know today there are many film lovers who are into VHS collecting. It’s like our vinyl or something. But regardless, all the collectors not only want to seek old VHS tapes, but they want any new film that comes out on VHS because it’ll probably sooner or later be just as valuable (if not more so) than the older tapes. It somewhat broke my heart to open up this great looking set, but it’s part of my job to give you the scoop. Now I’ll have my review for the actual film, The Basement, maybe as soon as later today (Tuesday), but check out the set’s features listed below and be sure to GO TO ALTERNATIVE CINEMA to get yourself this great set.
And with this set you get…..
The Basement (1989) – Directed by Tim O’Rawe. Four strangers are summoned to the basement of an abandoned house by a mysterious entity known only as The Sentinel. One after another, they are forced to witness heinous deeds they have yet to commit – and which will damn them for all eternity.
Swimming Pool – An unfaithful woman disposes of the evidence with a little help from a demonic water spirit.
Trick or Treat – Classic monsters exact revenge on a bitter man who refuses to honor Halloween.
Zombie Movie – Cocaine, hookers and reanimated corpses wreak havoc on the set of an independent film.
Home Sweet Home – A young man questions his sanity after purchasing a house where torture and mass murder were committed 6 years before.
The Basement Retro ’80s Horror Collection also includes cult classic DIY films:
Captives – Available for the first time on DVD, Captives is director Gary Cohen’s follow-up to his incredibly successful SOV horror films Video Violence and Video Violence 2. Taken hostage by three violently deranged criminals, a woman fights back to save her baby and mother-in-law’s lives in this gritty and suspenseful crime drama.
Video Violence
In this gore-soaked cult classic, a young couple opens a video store in a small town populated by violence-addicted amateur filmmakers, lead by the demented Howard and Eli.
Video Violence 2
The sequel to the Video Violence finds Howard and Eli pirating a cable TV channel for the purpose of furthering their brand of homegrown depravity, madness and murder.
Cannibal Campout
Deranged orphans torture, mutilate and murder innocent campers in this DIY classic from Jon McBride.
